  1. The Parable of The Good Samaritan Grace Defined

  2. The Context…. Luke 10:25 And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

  3. Jesus Answers… Luke 10:26-28 He said to him, “What is written in the Law?How do you read it?” 27 And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” 28 And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.”

  4. The Lawyer’s Lesson What must we do to be saved? Love God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength 100% of the time in thought, word and deed --- loving everyone as yourself … 100% of the time… without a single exception EVER.

  5. The Lawyer Looks for a… Loophole… Luke 10:29 But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

  6. The Parable… Luke 10:30-33 Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. 32 So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion.

  7. Luke 10:34-36 He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’36 Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?”

  8. The End of the Lesson… Luke 10:37 He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”

  9. The Point of the Parable…. Is to Illustrate that there is only one thing we can do to Inherent Eternal Life… To be Perfect… Which is Impossible… Therefore… There is NOTHING we can do to inherent Eternal Life

  10. What Does This Say About Grace? Only ONE Man has ever lived Perfectly according to the Law --- Jesus Christ Only ONE Man is Righteous before God --- Jesus Christ There is only ONE Perfect Good Samaritan --- Jesus Christ

  11. The Parable from the Viewpoint of the Samaritan Is it likely that the Samaritan would have expected the Jew who was injured to have helped him were he the one who was hurt?

  12. Luke 10:30-32 Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. 32 So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.

  13. The Parable from the Viewpoint of the Samaritan Is it likely that the Samaritan expected that the injured man himself would have wanted to interact with him (a Samaritan) at all?

  14. The Parable from the Viewpoint of the Samaritan Did the injured man seek after, cry out to, or invite the Samaritan to help Him? No! He was not able to seek after help.

  15. The Parable from the Viewpoint of the Samaritan Is it likely that the Samaritan was looking after approval from men for what he did?

  16. Luke 10:34-35 He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’

  17. The Parable from the Viewpoint of the Samaritan Did the Samaritain gain anything in having helped the injured man, his enemy? No! Then why did he do it?

  18. The Reason… Luke 10:33 But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion.

  19. In The Salvation Scenario…. In the Parable, Jesus is the Good Samaritan In the Parable, the hurt Jewish traveler represents fallen spiritually dead men

  20. Jesus as Savior Like the Samaritan in the Parable: Jesus… Saves us w/o our seeking after Him Chose to save His enemies Chose to save us solely out of Compassion Expects nothing in return for saving us Gains nothing in having saved us

  21. Why Would Jesus Do This? It came at great cost to Him --- why would He choose to suffer so? John 12:28 “Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.”

  22. Why Would Jesus Do This? John 14:31 I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father.

  23. Remember the Lawyer's Question.. Luke 10:25 And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

  24. Remember the Answer from Jesus… Luke 10:26-28 He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?” ….

  25. What Was the Law in View… Luke 10:27 And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”

  26. This is Exactly What Jesus Did… Jesus loved the Father with all His heart and with all His soul and with His strength and with all His mind, and… He expressed that love for God by displaying God’s Glorious Grace by Loving us onto Salvation

  27. In all This…. You and I were like the Jewish traveler… who was helpless and could not even cry out for help… we woke up one day, like he did, Healed… in our case with a Heart Changed by Grace and a Heart full of faith

  28. This Is… Salvation by Grace Alone… And so… We PRAISE HIM!
