MI8 line study result Update 04/22/2014 Ming-Jen Yang, MI
Study on April 8th • 1-bump orbit • HT800, HT804, HT806, and HT808 • VT803, VT805, VT807, and VT809 • Dispersion data • from -1600 Hz to +1600 Hz. • Data • Beam abort on first turn. • BPM data • from MI8 line up to MI40. • Multiwire data • MI8 line + 4 in MI ring. • MW829
Scaling to new 8-GeV • Main Injector • I:MIBEND, I:IQF, and I:IQD • Recycler • Dipoles • Bend angles are just between SGD and PGD. • Scaled by .9939251. • Quadrupoles • Transfer constants changed from 1.0 to .993925 • Multipoles • Upstream end shim fields scaled. • All others scaled transfer constants. • MI8 line • All fields in permanent magnets stay the same.
Orbit analysis • Multi-wire data • Fit all profiles for position and sigma. • Examine 1-bump orbit • With new 8-GeV energy. • Quad focusing adjustments. • Coupling in the MI8 line. • Match dispersion function eta • Compare measured eta with model • Adjust initial eta and eta' values. • Coupling • Based only on horizontal plane to vertical. • Non-linear vertical dispersion function • Most visible in vertical plane data • Likely source of error in vertical eta.
Lattice analysis • Fitting horizontal plane beam sigma • Horizontal emittance and dpop. • Fitting vertcial plane sigma • Vertical emittance only • Vary initial alpha and beta in each plane • And do the emittance fitting. • Looking for best fit to the profile sigma.
Issues • Vertical plane beam sigma • Not matching well starting at mw851. • Possible profiles spoiler • Incomplete first turn abort • Re-visit 1-bump orbit data • Remove data set with beam being clipped. • Possibly looking at the 4th data set for any sign of inconsistency.
