  2. Robert Newman was the sexton of Old North Church in 1775 when he was 23 years old.

  3. Paul Revere instructed Newman to send a signal by lantern. • The signal was so the patriots knew how the British would travel. (One by land, two by sea.)

  4. Newman and Captain John Pulley held two lanterns as Revere set out on his ride. • This was indicating that the British were traveling by sea.

  5. The lanterns were a signal for the group of patriots across the river in Charleston, in case Paul Revere wasn’t able to reach Charleston. • Put picture here.
