Research funding for magnetometer networks in Australia is extremely scarce, with a success rate of less than 20%. Currently, there are no operational or planned networks on mainland Australia, and research is limited mainly to Antarctic and high latitude areas. Existing permanent stations include Casey, Davis, Mawson, Macquarie Island, Zhon Shan, and Scott Base. Seasonal portable magnetometers have been deployed to enhance data collection near Antarctic stations, contributing valuable insights into geomagnetic phenomena and diurnal variations, while exploring the influence of interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) on local topology.

Australian Magnetometer Networks • Research Funding is very difficult to obtain; currently in Australia (<20% success rate). • No networks in operation or planned for mainland Australia. • Operations confined to Antarctic and high latitude research. • Five permanent stations: Casey (PC), Davis (Cusp), Mawson (Auroral), Macquarie Island (P/pause), Zhon Shan (PRC), Scott Base (NZ). • Seasonal inland portable magnetometers deployed to provide close-spaced network
