  3. School Mission Statement It is our mission to provide our students with opportunities designed to meet individual student needs and experiences that promote growth in each area of development. We will celebrate our achievements and forgive our failures.  We will be student centered and curriculum driven, but most of all it is the charge of our professional craft to strive daily to make a positive difference in the life of a child.

  4. Hurricane Oath I pledge to be at school, to behave and to be working. I will be responsible for my actions, I will be respectful to my classmates, my teachers, and the staff at Somerset. I will have the courage and integrity to do the right thing even when it may not be the most popular.

Student Safety Highlights • 7 Security Guards • Student Uniform Policy enforced for identification • Video Cameras • Code of Student Conduct • BCPS Discipline Matrix • Visitors must report to the Main Office and bring Picture ID for school check in • Level 1 & 2 screening requirements for volunteers • Fingerprinting requirement for all staff • Comprehensive “S.A.F.E.” Plan in place

Curriculum We implement a curriculum that is data driven and based on clear and measureable expectations for student learning that provides multiple opportunities for all students to acquire requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes in all subjects. Florida State Standards and Florida Next Generation Sunshine State Standards are utilized to drive the individualized instruction and help determine the rigor and relevance of the student’s work.

Technology We at Somerset Academy believe in creating a state-of-the-art learning environment. • We have increased the number of student access to computers by 50% • Engage our students with updated software and educational programs • Expand and empower students and teachers to develop and take part in innovative learning opportunities • Have a positive impact on overall student achievement We pride ourselves on providing this technology in EVERY classroom! • Promethean Interactive White Boards • Document Cameras • Additional online academic programs in all grade levels • Computers Labs • Lap Top Carts • Notebook computers to Elementary classes

FOOD SERVICES • Cafeteria staff and food is catered in daily. • Turn in lunch money for your child’s lunch account to homeroom teachers until notified otherwise; students may also bring lunch money on a daily basis. • Prices and menu are on our website ($2/breakfast $3/lunch) • Breakfast starts no earlier than 10 minutes before your child’s drop off time. • Pin Numbers are issued for all students. • Complete Free/Reduced Lunch Forms to benefit your child and your school! Free/Reduced Lunch last year. You will have a 10 day grace period to reapply.

Volunteering • 30 Hours for 1 student • 40 hours per family • Parents will be responsible for keeping and submitting their family volunteer log once per quarter. • KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS!! • Ways to Complete hours: • Volunteer at school • Receive double hours for Parent meetings and concession menu items • Purchase supplies for Class 5 dollars spent =1 hour • Completing surveys and turning in forms.

  10. Before Care • Middle/High Open Gym 7:30am Registration Fee: $35.00 • Price $75.00 a month 1st Student • $50.00 a month 2nd Student • $25.00 a month 3rd Student • Emergency After Care • (Contact Boys and Girls Club for daily after care needs)

  11. Attendance Policies • Attendance is a priority! (BE HERE & ON TIME) • Students with 5 or more unexcused absences or tardies will be placed on probation. (BCPS) • If a student is absent call the front office so student can be excused. • Send a note/email or doctors note the day after the absence to assist with documentation of the absence.

Homework Policy • The purpose of homework is to provide student extra practice on skills that have already been taught. • Homework also allows parents to be a part of their child’s education and keeps parents informed on what students are working on in class. • Here are the guidelines for the amount of homework students should be doing daily. Also allow time for independent reading. K-5Middle/High K-2 20 min 30 min per academic subject 3rd 30 min 4th 40 min 5th 50 min
