  1. Comprehensive District Improvement Plan

  2. The CDIP is the district’s plan for improving teaching and learning as mandated by Kentucky’s Unbridled Learning Accountability Plan.

  3. Unbridled Learning: College and/or Career Readiness for All The good news: We have a unified accountability system

For 2012-2013 School and district accountability will be measured by: • Achievement (academic proficiency in reading, math, science, social studies and writing) • Gap (percent proficient and distinguished for non-duplicated gap group for all 5 content areas) • Growth in reading and math (percentage of students at typical or higher levels of growth) • College/Career Readiness • Graduation Rate

  5. Our old accountability model was a growth model which compared student academic performance on statewide achievement testing to student performance the previous year at the same grade level.

  6. Our new accountability model is a normative model comparing our elementary schools to the other elementary schools in the state, our middle schools to other middle schools, our high school to other high schools and our district to other districts using the Unbridled Learning formula.

  7. Current Challenges: • Kentucky has adopted new, more rigorous academic achievement standards. • Kentucky has adopted an accountability system that is very different from our previous system. • It is difficult to predict how schools and districts will fare with this new system. • Technology is changing the business of teaching and learning at a rapid pace.

  8. Challenges: Even though we are closing achievement gaps in Reading, achievement gaps exist for: African American Students; Hispanic Students; Students eligible for free and reduced lunch; Students with disabilities; and Students who speak English as a Second Language.

  9. In Math, achievement gaps exist for: Students eligible for free and reduced lunch; Students with disabilities; and Students who speak English as a second language.

  10. Challenges: Technology is Changing our Work If teachers only provide: • Content • Facts • Dates • Formulas • Research • Theories • Stories • Information From Prezi, created for ASB Unplugged conference in Munbai, India 2101

  11. Then our role is obsolete because students can find information on anything, anywhere, anytime.

  12. Through • Blogs • You Tube • Google • iPods • Cell Phones Virtually Limitless Information

  13. Teachers are no longer the source of information. We are the filter.

  14. So, what does it really mean to teaching and learning in BGISD in a changing landscape?

  15. CDIP includes Strategies • To teach students how to • Validate information • Synthesize information • Leverage information • Communicate information • Collaborate with information • Create with information • Problem solve with information

  16. CDIP includes strategies to teach students Responsibility Reliability Integrity

  17. Our CDIP shows that • We are rethinking the problems we ask students to solve, the tools we ask students and teachers to use and our role as life coaches and guides.

  18. Solutions: We will form partnerships to teach in ways that engage students with content and motivate them to think critically and solve problems

  19. We will focus on relationships first All children belong to all of us.

  20. We will intentionally teach respect, reliability and integrity as well as communication and collaborative skills

  21. We will teach global awareness and respect for cultural diversity.

  22. We will embrace technology to engage and challenge students.

  23. We will challenge our teachers and leaders with continuous opportunities for professional growth through professional dialogue.

  24. We will continuously involve parents and community leaders as full partners in our efforts to improve teaching and learning.

  25. We have moral purpose, clear direction and collective capacity. We are prepared to lead change.
