  3. AIM How do the bedouin feel about the fishery, fishery restrictions and conservation in the Nabq area? • METHODS • Interviewed bedouin in the Nabq area? • N = 8 • 30 questions

  4. RESULTS What do they catch?

  5. How do they catch the fish? • 62% would like to use other methods

  6. Attitudes to no fishing zones • 100% - boundaries clearly marked

  7. Were they aware of anyone fishing in the no fishing zones? • 87% - were not consulted on the positions of the no fishing zones

  8. Have catches changed over the years? • Size & type - 100% no change • Number -

  9. Conservation issues • 87% were aware of conservation and agreed with conservation of fish spp. • 74% put juvenile fish back

  10. How do they feel about the national park status?

  11. Did they gain anything from the national park?

  12. How do they feel about the government? 100% - thought the government were unsympathetic to their needs!

  13. CONCLUSIONS • Bedouins are aware of conservation as it is part of their way of life • Do not agree that their needs are being taken into consideration • Restrictions however are important!
