  2. Bedouins in the world today • -Egypt; 1,400 people • -Israel; 170 people • -Jordan; 740 • -Kuwait; 250 • -Palestine; 20 • -Qatar; 100 • -Saudi Arabia; 1,000 • -Syria; 80 • -U.A.E; 450 TOTAL= 4, 200 World wide- 4.2 million

  3. Bedouins • Their life forms are pastoral • They herd camels and sometimes sheep, goats, and cattle. • They eat dairy products, milk, and meat. • Their language is mostly Bedouin Arabic • Bedouins are mostly Muslims but there are small groups of Christians in Palestine and Syria.

  4. Bedouin social classes • “Bedouins are organized according to patrilinear corporate groups.” • They define themselves as members of tribes and families. • The defined groups are headed by shavks, or elders which is a position that is passed down from father to son. • Bedouins are divided into social classes depending on ancestry and profession. • Marriage is difficult for a man and a woman with different classes.
