  2. HIRS OV Test Cases • Consolidated previous NOAA and NASA test cases for HIRS OV • Now has a total of 20 test cases, of which 8 are related to instrument activation. • 12 test cases are most relevant to our MetOP HIRS Cal/Val here. • All 12 tests have been completed and many have been reported in previous presentations. • Test summary has been drafted (2 pages). Test reports are in progress • The following are tests that have not been shown previously.

  3. pre post

  4. Shortwave channel degradation rate -Degradation or responsivity change observed in slope -No degradation in longwave channels -About 0.3% for channel 19 in 30 days -About 0.45% for channel 13 in 30 days -Degradation rate is faster than that for NOAA18/HIRS (0.24% for ch19 and 0.39% for ch13 per month)

  5. HIRS Visible Channel Calibration -Calibration check at Libyan desert target for HIRS 0.69um channel -Prelaunch calibration coefficients gives 41.5% for Libyan desert, which is ~15% higher than Rao’s calculated 36.1%. -However, MODIS 0.66um channel gives 42.4% -HIRS vis channel has a longer wavelength than AVHRR ch1, thus reflectance should be higher (not lower) than that of AVHRR Ch1, which is 37.8%, given the increasing sand reflectance with wavelength. -Therefore, the HIRS reference 36.1% value is questionable NSS.HIRX.M2.D06362.S0732.E0914.B0098990.SV

  6. HIRS Focal Plane Co-registration Evaluation Channel 8 Channel 19 Channel 20

  7. MetOP vs. NOAA-18 HIRS SNO Analysis

  8. Simultaneous Full-swath Observations between Aqua/MODIS and MetOP/AVHRR for Geolocation Analysis (preliminary) SNO data from Dec. 13, 2006 MODIS Nadir FRAC Nadir Advanced algorithm developed to allow Full Swath pixel-by-pixel match which was previously not feasible

  9. Aqua/MODIS vs. MetOP/AVHRR Calibration at SNO -Excellent agreement for channel 1 at 0.65 um. Difference on the order of 0.2% with uncertainties at 0.003% -Refining analysis procedure to improved SNO accuracy, which will lead to new application opportunities
