  2. Welcome to the FIRST District 6290 online • Membership Seminar.

With this many attendees, it would be chaotic to have everyone talking at once. • There will be a Q & A session at the end, so if you have a question or comment, please raise your hand (the little hand on the banner in the upper right hand corner of your screen) or submit a question through the ‘question’ box, also in the upper right hand corner.

  14. How do we get everyone involved? • Club assembly • Brain storming classifications • Collecting names that fit those classifications • Assignment of names • Follow-up

  15. Key Points • Get the entire club involved • Use club assemblies to keep it in front of them • Plant folks to respond to questions to get the ball rolling. • Provide regular follow-up – ‘Membership minutes’ • Honor those who bring guests or new members

Education Idea that works… • When you first get started with a formal new member orientation, do it as the club program, in front of the entire club. • This will… • Involve current members in the process • Refresh many ‘older’ Rotarians on the information • Make the new members feel like part of the group

  19. The importance of getting a new member started right… I’m pleased to introduce our guest presenter, Dave Scott, membership chair of the Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan Rotary Club.

  20. Example of a method used by many clubs to get new members involved and understanding Rotary… • The Red Badge • The Red Ribbon • The Red Sticker

Examples of things included in the Red Badge program… • Attend a board meeting • Do a ‘make-up’ at another club • Participate in a club social activity • Participate in a club project or fundraiser • Attend ‘New Member Orientation’ • Be a greeter at the door at least once • Sell 50/50 tickets at least once

  22. Examples of things included in the Red Badge program… • Take attendance at least once • Do a “Rotary Minute” at a club meeting • Spend at least 1 hour browsing the Rotary Web Site • Sign up for “Member Access” on the RI Web Site • Give Classification Talk at club meeting

The Role of a Mentor • Each Red Badge recipient has a mentor, who will: • Sit with the new Rotarian for a while and take them to other tables to meet other Rotarians. • Follow along with the Red Badge list to encourage completion of the activities • Take new Rotarian to their first ‘make-up’ • Take new Rotarian to the board meeting • Greet at the door with them to introduce them • Call new Rotarian if they miss a meeting
