3. College Fairs You can volunteer online for a college fair Click on “Volunteer for this Fair”

4. Once you fill out this form online, your name will appear on the Arkansas Alumni Association website as the volunteer for that fair. The Alumni Recruiting Coordinator will mail materials to the address you provided one week prior to the fair. Please fill out the Volunteer Activity Report online afterwards so the Alumni Recruiting Coordinator can record volunteer hours.

5. Adopt-a-School(Out-of-State Residents Only) • Contact local high school to schedule a time to visit with the high school counselor • Take provided materials to the counselor during your appointment • Ask the counselor if you can visit with a junior or senior English class or table during a lunch • Find out when college fair is Please fill out a Volunteer Activity Report online after working with your adopted school. This way the Alumni Recruiting Coordinator can inform the Assistant Director for the Office of Admissions that a particular school has been visited. When Assistant Directors meet with students, it is always good for the students and the staff to know who the local contact is.

6. Award Ceremonies • A script is provided. • The Assistant Director over your territory will contact you if there is a scholarship recipient from your area. Training Manual Page 3

7. Receptions Receptions for students are always a great way to connect. They can be as big as a planned chapter event or as small as a dinner party at your house. The Arkansas Alumni Association will mail out invitations for you to all prospective and admitted students interested in Arkansas. In the fall, some chapters will host recruiting receptions. In the spring, the annual “Head to the Hill” events take place in areas with a large concentration of students interested in attending the University. The summer hosts send-off receptions for admitted students right before they move to Fayetteville. These receptions offer a time for alumni to connect with future Razorbacks and parents in your area and a great time for them to make friends.

8. Hog Calls • Ambassadors can speak with admitted students and their parents. Please note that these are students that have been accepted. They might have applied to more than one school and are trying to decide which one to choose. Nothing is ever definite in recruiting except for those that show up the first day of class. • A script is provided in the training manual. • Send any feedback from Hog Calls to the Alumni Recruiting Coordinator as she will forward these on to the Office of Admissions. A feedback form can be found under the Alumni Ambassador Online Toolkit. Training Manual Page 3

9. Minority Recruitment • Adopt a Local Community • Visit with local community leaders, religious leaders, and community centers to educate students, parents, and community on the U of A and importance of taking the ACT/SAT as a junior and as many times offered • Minority Recruitment Receptions • Hog Calls to Admitted African Americans • Guiding a Minority Please fill out a Volunteer Activity Report online afterwards so the Alumni Recruiting Coordinator can record the volunteer hours.

10. NACAC Guidelines • Arrive on time (we suggest 15-30 minutes) • Dress in business attire • Stay for the entire program • Check in with registration booth and introduce yourself to the guidance counselor • Do not stand in front of the booth. • No more than three representatives at a booth • Only literature may be handed out. No giveaways. • Be courteous to other exhibitors and fair attendees. Training Manual Page 2

11. NCAA Guidelines Simple guidelines on recruiting student athletes You may not contact the prospect’s coach, principal or counselor for the purpose of evaluation of the prospect. You are not permitted to pick up films of transcripts from the prospect’s educational institution. You may attend high school and junior college athletic events. You may continue established family relationships with friends and neighbors. Contacts with sons or daughters of these families certainly are permitted as long as they are not made for recruiting purposes and are not initiated by U of A coaching staff members. You may play “pick up” basketball or softball games, continue neighborhood picnics or backyard barbecues and engage in your normal activities with prospects and their parents who are family friends. Again, you simply are not permitted to attempt to recruit the prospect or discuss the athletic program. Training Manual Page 5

12. NCAA Guidelines You may attend a public event (e.g. a high school awards banquet or dinner) at which prospects are in attendance. No attempt should be made to recruit the prospect. You may send to the U of A coaching staff any newspaper clippings or other information about prospects which you think would be of interest. The coaching staff will then make the contact with the prospect. You may offer assistance to members of the U of A coaching staff who are recruiting in your community. You may discuss summer employment arrangements with a prospect after he/she has signed a National Letter of Intent. Training Manual Page 5

13. FERPA Guidelines • Schools may not disclose information about a student without the student’s consent. • Students must be mailed information about their rights, and can deny information to be released from the Office of Admissions Training Manual Page 5

14. Dos and Don’ts Do laugh and have fun. Do not put down other colleges. Do smile. Be professional and positive about the University of Arkansas. Do not guess about a student’s admission decision. You may tell the student what criteria the U of A uses when accepting applications. Do share your experiences when you attended the University. Just make sure to keep the stories clean and professional. As a representative of the University, it would not be professional to refer to residence halls as a nickname that you used in college. Do not promise scholarships to prospective students. You may tell the student about scholarships that students may apply for. Do respect the confidentially of the student’s information. Do not attempt to answer questions that you are unsure of the answer. It is perfectly fine to say “I do not know the answer to your questions, but I can forward your question to someone appropriate at the University.” Do dress appropriately for college fairs, visiting with counselors, and receptions. Remember this is an important decision that prospective students are making. Please be respectful and professional when representing the University of Arkansas. Training Manual Page 5

Admission Classification • New Freshman: A new freshman is a student who has not attended college since the summer following high school graduation. • Transfer Students: If you have been a student at another university or college and have 24 or more transferable hours then this is you. Don’t know if you meet the qualifications then please ask for assistance.

17. Schedule a Campus Tour • Students can visit with an admissions counselor, take a student guided tour, and see a model residence hall. Students who visit campus on a weekday can meet with an academic department or faculty

18. Admission Requirements (New Freshman) • 20 ACT (930 SAT) *U of A does accept the “superscore”. The U of A does not use the writing portion of either the ACT or SAT. • 3.0 GPA • 16 high school core requirements (4 English, 4 math, 3 natural sciences, 3 social studies, and 2 electives) • If students do not meet the above general admission requirements, each file will be reviewed on an individual basis • November 15 – Early notification date

19. Admission Requirements (Transfer Students) • 2.0 Cumulative GPA or better on all college course work previously taken • Be in “Good Standing” at the last institution attended • Have at least 24 transferable credit hours when applying for admission to the University of Arkansas. • The Course Equivalency Guide gives a current list of transferable classes.

20. ACT Requirements • Students should aim for a 21 on the mathematics section of the ACT to be admitted unconditionally • Students should aim for a 19 on the English section of the ACT to be admitted unconditionally

21. Apply Online • Students can apply online to fill out the application and pay the $40 application fee. • Students will still need to send all transcripts to the Office of Admissions
