Enhancing Performance Efficiency in Exotic Trigger Meeting

Investigating and improving the efficiency of PEM8 trigger in detecting exotic events. Data samples collected from Aug2003-Feb2004 meeting rigorous criteria. Analysis includes fake fraction estimation and track characteristics. Comparison with simulation shows promising accuracy. Future focus on PEM8 L2 efficiency and cross-checking with CEM4. Enjoy exploring exotic triggers!

  1. PEM8 Efficiency: L1 M.Giordani, L.Santi, G.Pauletta,M.Rossi Exotic Trigger Meeting

  2. PEM8 Efficiency • PEM8 @ L1 == L1_EM8 • 1Trigger Tower (ηxΦ ≈ 0.2x15º) • >8GeV • Had/Em <0.125 (nominally) <0.0625 (according to P.Wilson) • Data Sample collected by SUSY_DILEPTON trigger (Aug2003-Feb2004) • Used all unbiased paths for PEM8 @ L1-L2 • All paths not requiring PEM8 • CEM4_PEM8_L2_CEM12_PT8 { Exotic Trigger Meeting

  3. PEM ID • From Multilepton Page for 4-20 PT (CDF7345) • Had/em<0.05 • PES 5/9 U >0.65 • PES 5/9 V >0.65 • PAD Track • Eop<3 • Z0<60cm • Isolation (optional) • Pem3x3FitTow>0 • Pem3x3Chisq<10 currently used Exotic Trigger Meeting

  4. Conversion Selection • Similar to CDF6257 and CDF7095 • Preselection • |Δcotθ|<0.15 • Sxy<0.1 • ΔR = √(Φ2+η2) >0.1 • Consider 2 sub-samples • Peak |Δcotθ|<0.03 (Signal+Background) • Sideband |Δcotθ|>0.05 (Background) Signal = true electrons Background = fakes Exotic Trigger Meeting

  5. Fake Fraction in PT bin Fakes are ~20% under the Peak region: ntot = nfake + ne εtot x ntot = εfake x nfake + εe x ne Exotic Trigger Meeting

  6. PEM Track • Close to the beamline PEM tracks cross few SL • most of the tracks w. θ<20º have no COT hits • tracks w. θ<20º = 16% • tracks w. θ<20º and 2 SL (5 hits) = 1.5% Tracks 3706 Tracks θ<20º 603 Tracks θ<20º, 2SL (5 hits) 55 We ask PEM tracks with θ>20º (|η|<1.7) work in progress for including forward tracks (Pheonix,Silicon) Exotic Trigger Meeting

  7. Trigger vs. Simulation • Simulation to reproduce trigger decision PEM candidate (all cuts) 3103 L1_EM8 Real bit 1892 100% L1_EM8 Simulation (had/em<0.125) 1904 +0.6% (had/em<0.0625) 1620 -14% Trigger decision seems to be well reproduced when requiring had/em<0.125 in simulation Exotic Trigger Meeting

  8. Efficiency Definition • Cluster–TriggerTower ηxΦmatching • Trigger Tower pointed by the (η,Φ) of the offline Cluster • Triggered PEM • Offline PEM with corresponding trigger tower satisfying all L1_EM8 requirements (Triggered PEM passing all cuts) (PEM passing all CUTS) • Fitting function used for a global likelihood fit of Peak and Sideband Efficiency = _______________________ ε = 0.5 p2 (1+erf(t)) t = (PT –p0)/2p1 Exotic Trigger Meeting

  9. L1_EM8 Efficiency Had/em<0.125, background subtracted χ2/ndf 13.7/16 p0 5.59±0.67 P1 1.59±1.32 P2 0.98±0.06 Exotic Trigger Meeting

  10. L1_EM8 Efficiency Had/em<0.0625, background subtracted χ2/ndf 14.2/16 p0 5.51±0.72 P1 1.56±1.09 P2 0.94±0.09 Exotic Trigger Meeting

  11. Summary • Real L1_EM8 is comparable • with L1_EM8_Sim (had/em<0.125) within 0.6% • much less with L1_EM8_Sim (had/em<0.0625) within 14% • L1_EM8 Plateau Efficiency • (had/em<0.125) = 0.98±0.06 • (had/em<0.0625) = 0.94±0.09 NEXT • Working on PEM8 L2 efficiency • Cross check procedure using CEM4 eff.
