Onomatopoeia and Rhyme. Definition :. Onomatopoeia (on-o-mat- o-PEA-a) is the imitation of natural sounds in word form. These words help us form mental pictures about things, people, or places. E.g. boom, buzz, crackle, gurgle, hiss, pop, sizzle, snap, swoosh, whir, zip.

  2. Definition : Onomatopoeia (on-o-mat- o-PEA-a) • is the imitation of natural sounds in word form. These words help us form mental pictures about things, people, or places. • E.g. boom, buzz, crackle, gurgle, hiss, pop, sizzle, snap, swoosh, whir, zip

  3. Types of onomatopoeia: • direct onomatopoeia: the sound of the word resembles the sound that it produces. examples- pop, hiss, whirr, splash, rustle, zoom, bang, shriek, thud, ding-dong, gargle, crunch . • associated onomatopoeia: the name of a thing, animal or object that resembles a sound associated with it .examples- cuckoo (and other birds), bubble, whip, scratch, splatter, cackle, cough, whisper . • exemplary onomatopoeia: the amount and character of the physical work used by a speaker when verbalizing a word that matches its meaning .examples- nimble, dart, slothful, sluggish, mumble .

On the NongNing Nang All the mice go Clang And you just can't catch 'em when they do ! So its Ning Nang Nong Cows go Bong! Nong Nang Ning Trees go ping NongNing Nang The mice go Clang What a noisy place to belong is the Ning Nang Ning Nang Nong!!

  6. Spike Milligan’s poem “ On the Ning Nang Nong “ uses many examples of onomatopoeia . Onomatopoeic words such as ning nang nong , bong , boo , ping and many other words are used to show the reader the noise and bustle in the place allocated .

  9. Definition : A rhyme is a repetition of similar sounds in two or more words and is most often used in poetry and songs . The word "rhyme" may also refer to a short poem, such as a rhyming couplet or other brief rhyming poem. Example: Chena and meana

  10. Function of rhyme: To enjoy simply a repeating rhythm that is pleasant to hear. It also serves as a powerful device, facilitating memorization.

  11. Example of rhyme : The Germ by Ogden Nash A mighty creature is the germ, Though smaller than the pachyderm. His customary dwelling place Is deep within the human race. His childish pride he often pleases By giving people strange diseases. Do you, my poppet, feel infirm ? You probably contain a germ.
