  2. Sandy Versionby Phillip Phillips Watch the video, really pay attention to the words of the song and the people……

  3. On the paper I gave you, I want you to write 3 to 5 paragraphs on the question below: How were you and your family effected by Hurricane Sandy?

  4. What is a home?

  5. Does a home have to be a square?

  6. What does a architect do?

  7. Power point on Frank Lloyd Wright: http://www.dms.provo.edu/TEACHERS/LORNAT/teeter2/3/files/Frank%20Lloyd%20Wright.ppt

  8. Some of the buildings that an architect designs are houses, churches, schools, restaurants and castles.

  9. There’s no place like home. • For centuries, the idea of home has been a source of inspiration for numerous artists. • The most basic definition for ‘house’ is that of a building in which people live. • But, isn’t it more than that? • The landscape around the structure can sometimes feel as much as home as being inside it. • Whether you live in an apartment in the city, or in a house in the suburbs, a house by the beach or a farm in the countryside, your home can be more than just a shelter. • It can be a reflection of yourself, created from your own imagination.

  10. Think of three ideas for a house that is a reflection of you. Doodle what these would look like. Circle the one you would like to create in clay. Draw what the house will look like from the front. Draw what it will look like from the side.

  11. What do you think of these ideas?

  12. Make tag board templates for sides of architecture. 1. Roll out slab of clay to uniform thickness on canvas cloth - using guide sticks. • Lay template on slab and cut with needle. • Gently lift so as not to warp the clay. • Layer on board between newspaper. 2. To assemble: Score and slip sides to base. • May cut base larger than building to include landscaping elements around the structure if desired. • Score and slip sides together. • Fuse a thin coil into inside seams.

  14. TERMS: Sculpture — a three-dimensional work of art that is intended to be viewed from all sides. It can be made out of materials such as plaster, stone, wood, metal, and clay. Composition — the organization of line, value, color, shape, and form within a work of art. 2-dimensional — images that are flat and can be described in terms of height and width. The images can represent the illusion of real space and are viewed from the front. 3-dimensional — forms that have many sides and can be described in terms of depth, width and height. The forms actually occupy real space, and should be viewed all around.

  15. Clay technique terms: • Glaze — a special clear or colored liquid mixture applied to ceramic surfaces that becomes hard and glass-like when fired to the right temperature in a kiln.Slip — clay that has been mixed with water into a creamy consistency. • Scoring — a method of joining two parts of clay together by scratching the two surfaces and spreading slip between them as “glue.” • Fire — to heat the clay in a kiln at a very high temperature until it is hard and it becomes ceramic.Bisque — unglazed ceramic after the first firing. • Template — a positive pattern.
