  4. READING AND LITERATURE • Reading is an essential component in our ReLA program. • Students should be engaged in independent reading every day. • EFFECTS OF DAILY INDEPENDENT READING: • Build fluency and comprehension • Develop stronger vocabulary • Become better writers

  5. INDEPENDENT READING • Accelerated Reader Program • Student selected novel • CMS library • Public library • Teacher classroom library • Book store • Novels at home • 15-20 minutes each night • Test for points • Summative grade at the end of the marking period based on points earned.

  10. HOMEWORK • Daily reading (15-20 minutes a night) • Daily review of weekly vocabulary (5-7 minutes) • 5 times over the course of the week OTHER: • Reviewing Cornell notes when given • Grammar practice (15 minutes) • Review of cumulative vocabulary words (twice a month)

GRADING POLICY • HOMEWORK/ DAILY WORK: • 40% of the average for the marking period • TESTS, MAJOR ESSAYS, MAJOR PROJECTS: • 60% of the average for the marking period • Retest Policy: (Major tests only) • Students must meet all the retest requirements and schedule the retest with the teacher within one week of receiving the test back. (1 test per grading period per subject) • Requirements: • Conference with teacher • Attend tutoring session • Turn in signed form
