Raising of the Participation Age • From summer 2013, young people will be required to continue in education or training until the end of the academic year in which they turn 17. • From 2015, they will be required to continue until their 18th birthday. • RPA will take effect from the last day of the academic year in summer 2013

  5. Raising of the Participation Age This doesn’t necessarily mean staying in school. Young people will be able to choose how they participate post-16, which could be through: • Full-time education, such as school, college or otherwise • an Apprenticeship; • Part-time education or training if they are employed, self employed or volunteering for 20 hours or more a week.   6. Progression Increase positive learner progression into employment with training or higher levels of learning. Through the delivery of an appropriate curriculum, which should include Employability Skills Schools Colleges Work Based Learning Providers Voluntary Sector Employers Adult Education, Skills Plus etc

  7. Statutory Duty : Tracking Track all young people to their 19th birthday. Provides data for; Targeted Support Early Identification of potential NEETs Reporting to DfE: Monthly NEET return / RPA / Destination Measure
