Save or Salvation • The Word which summarizes all the other key words • Used in Paul in three ways • We are saved (present) – death of Jesus; baptism as means of receiving it • We are being saved (progressive present; in process) – sacraments or life in the church; from baptism to last rites • We will be saved (future) – safe place (future); heaven; last rites prepares for it. • Illustration: Man in a boat

  3. Redemption • Jesus uses His blood to buy us • To bring us to the Father • To salvage or rescue us • Christ’s sacrifice for the life of the world is the means of our redemption

  4. Righteousness & Justification • Righteousness: God’s offer to “make you whole” • To complete you • We are not “whole” without Christ • We cannot make ourselves righteous • Our righteousness is “in Christ” • Justification: God’s rightness given to us in the Church, received by faith and lived in love • Jesus is the Vine, we are the branches

  5. Reconciliation • Peace between two people • Remember the parable of the lost son

  6. Grace & Mercy • Grace: the gift from God given with no strings attached which comes in different packages (T. Grauer) • Packages: the Sacraments • No strings: unconditional love • Gift: freely given • Mercy: God not dealing with us as we deserve • God’s unfairness

  7. Eschatology • Last Things • The end of the world • The coming of Jesus (parousia) • The resurrection of the dead • The end of your life

  8. Transformation • Sanctification (Paul’s word) • Christ’s holiness which transforms our • Mind • Spirit • Desires
