This report summarizes findings from the NorBaRAG 2018 research on pollen beetle monitoring across the Nordics, Baltic, and central zones. Key insights include the efficacy trends of various insecticides, such as Biscaya and Karate, which show a slight decrease and increase in resistance, respectively. Resistance levels against commonly used pesticides were evaluated at 14 sites in Sweden. Moreover, the report discusses strategies for improving resistance management in crops like oilseed rape, potatoes, and cereals, aimed at enhancing pesticide efficacy and crop yield stability.

Insecticide subgroup Summary NorBaRAG 2018
Pollen beetle monitoring • Niels Jakob Jacobsen, ADAMA Northern Europe • 2017 pollen beetle monitoring in Nordics, Baltic and central zone • Nordics: • No kdr findings • Biscaya (neonicotinoid): slight fall in efficacy in the last few years • Karate (pyrethroid): slight increase in efficacy (used less) • Mavrik (pyrethoid): constant • Central: Biscaya and Karate decrease, mavrik constant • Yield not affected by PB
Monitoring in Sweden • Lovisa Eriksson, Jordbruksverket • Pollen beetles: • 14 sites (Sweden) • Resistance against karate • Nordic/Baltic: Biscaya slight fall, Mospilan still good • Cabbage seed weevils: • 4 sites (Sweden) • Highly susceptible to all 3 products (M, K, B) • CSFB: • Low incidence of kdr
Resistance of strawberry blossom weevils • JarmoKetola, LUKE • Raspberry and strawberry pest • Lambda-cyhalothin • Collection sites in conventional and organic farms • Indications of resistance • Difference between conventional and organic farm weevils
Resistance handling in Germany • Udo Heimbach, Julius-Kuehn Institute • Expert committee on pesticide resistance • Advisors, JKI, companies, reg authorities, PPP retailers • Knowledge sharing • Harmonizing of tests, protocols • Coordinate monitoring activities • Resistance strategies for: • Oilseed rape • Potatoes • Cereals
Resistance of cabbage stem flea beetles • DorteHøjlandCastberg • 15 samples from DNK, 15 samples from SWE • Tested for kdr pyrethoid resistance • Results: • Kdr “non-existing” in SWE • Low kdr and resistance levels East and North of Denmark • High levels in South of Denmark • Multiple factors involved
Moving forward • How to take full advantage of the NorBaRAG insecticide group? • Sharing knowledge: • Dose response curve concentrations for insect species • Collection guide • Cooperation partners • List of participants and what we do • Mutual data compilation on homepage
