  1. CRITERION 3 A GCC longs to see all the peoples on the earth hallowing God’s name

  2. I. Four biblical motives for leading others to hallow His name (2 Cor 5:9-15)

  3. 1. God’s Glory Gen 1:1 - Isa 43:7 - God created Israel for His glory. Matthew 6:9 - Jesus taught us that our purpose in prayer is to “hallow his name.” 1 Cor 10:31 – Glorifying God is our purpose for prayer, our purpose for existence, and is also the purpose in whatever we do.

  4. 2. The fear of the Lord 2 Cor. 5:9-11 Lord is fearful. The first meaning is: We don't want to disappoint/offend Him and fail to share the gospel.

  5. 2. The fear of the Lord 2 Cor. 5:9-11 Lord is fearful. The second meaning is: Paul knows unrepentant sinners will receive His wrath

  6. The fear of the Lord Hell is real and the Lord will not overlook unrepentant sin. Therefore, our love for our non-Christian neighbors, friends, relatives, etc. should motivate us to share the gospel.

  7. 3. Joy/Rewards 2 Cor 5:9-10 • Our greatest reward is to be pleasing to God (5:9).

  8. 3. Joy/Rewards 1 Cor 4:5 On that day each man will receive his praise from God. Matt 6:20

  9. 4. Love of Christ compels us 2 Cor 5:14-15 According verse 14, Christ’s LOVE compels Paul to live for God This word ‘compel’ in the Greek draws a very beautiful picture…

  10. 4. Love of Christ compels us Luke 7:36-50 • He who is forgiven much loves much, he who is forgiven little loves little.

  11. 4. Love of Christ compels us • 1 Tim 1:15 - Paul knew he was a sinner, the worst of all sinners. • The only difference between Paul and us is that most of our sin is on the inside.

  12. II. Where to call others to hallow His Name Romans 15:20 - “It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known.”

  13. III. Where to call others to hallow His Name This is where we get the concept of an unreached people group (UPG). Although definitions can vary, the basic idea is that a UPG does not have a sufficient number of Christians to evangelize their people.

  14. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS/ACTION STEPS • Self-examine if they are more God-centered or man-centered in their Christian service. • Develop sermon outline #3 on the biblical motivation for missions. What motivations would you list for your church members? Which passages of scriptures would most impact them? • Ponder which UPG makes sense for your church to target and why? Although this task should ideally be done with your fellow leaders as well as the congregation, now you can begin to brainstorm your answer to this question.
