Joe Gould: Then you're dead, you're down, you're gone, no chance! Jim Braddock: Two hundred and fifty bucks? Joe Gould: Two hundred and fifty bananas! Jim Braddock: [rushes to hug him] Joey!

  28. Memorable quotes • Mae Braddock: Every time you get hit, feels like I'm getting' hit too. • Jim Braddock: Max, my wife Mae. Max Baer: You are far too pretty to be a widow. 31. Reviews • Most serious movies live in a world of cynicism and irony, and most good-hearted movie characters live in bad movies. Here is a movie where a good man prevails in a world where every day is an invitation to despair, where resentment would seem fully justified, where doing the right thing seems almost gratuitous, because nobody is looking and nobody cares.– Roger Ebert – Chicago Sun times

  32. Reviews • Ron Howard's bio-pic is an Oscar-baiting fairy tale that manipulates the audience at every turn of the clich. -- New York by: Lou Lumenick • Cinderella Man is not a movie about boxing, but about this boxer who personified the heart and hope of 1935. – Carrie Ricky- Philadelphia Inquire

  33. Reviews • A premier boxing movie and a forceful Depression remembrance for the socially conscious, Cinderella Man also ices it for stargazers that Russell Crowe is the dominant screen actor working today.– Mike Clark – USA Today • It's the classic American tale of the family man triumphant, and Howard makes sure that it hits you right in the heart. – Peter Travers– Rolling stones

  34. Movies you may like similar to Cinderella man

  35. History vs. movie • The Depression Era is shown very accurately • The housing, all the people begging for work, and even the looks on people's faces are similar to the real thing • The scenes where the men are all at the docks lined up at the fence begging for work is especially accurate. It shows how much they all needed the money and how only a few would be chosen to work each day.

  36. History vs. movie • When Braddock asked for relief money depicts the depression because of the loss of pride on his face • The story of Jim Braddock is also shown almost exactly how it happened • He really did fight with a broken hand even though; it would seem that was only added for dramatic effect. He had to take the bandage off to get work because they wouldn't choose him if he appeared injured

  37. History vs. movie • Jim was really poor as the film showed very well as he was skipping meals so his kids could eat • One difference is that in the film Jim is informed of his comeback fight just two days before it is to happen, while in real life he had more time.

  38. History vs. movie • the character Max Baer, in the film he is taunting Jim all the time and is made out to be much more of a villain than he actually was • Max Baer in fact did say Jim Braddock was an unworthy opponent, but he didn't taunt him as was shown in the film, that was just added for entertainment.

  39. History vs. movie • In the film Mae (his wife) begs him not to fight because she is so worried about him being injured, however in real life she understood his excitement about fighting and she was excited herself, both for the glory and the money he could win • The differences between the film and history are mostly in Braddock's life and are there to make the movie more entertaining, and they don't change how the feeling of the country at the time is shown, which remains very similar to how it was.

  40. Cinderella man is a movie about the greatest Cinderella story in sports history. James Braddock is a beacon of hope for any down on their luck team or person. This movie revealed the original Cinderella story and proved that anybody can be somebody.– Stephen Luiken
