Cinderella loses her mother and her father remarries a mean woman with two daughters who are also mean Cinderella is forced to do all of the housework She has animal friends The prince has a ball to choose a wife, but when Cinderella’s animal friends make her a dress to go in, the step sisters destroy it Cinderella cries when the dress is destroyed and the Fairy Godmother appears, tuning her destroyed dress into a beautiful gown to attend the ball in, telling her she only has until midnight before her dress turns back When she arrives, her step mother and sisters do not recognize her The prince takes a liking to Cinderella, but when the clock strikes twelve, she runs off, leaving her glass slipper behind The prince takes the slipper and has every girl in the kingdom try it on to see what girl owned the shoe He finds Cinderella and she puts the shoe on, A PERFECT FIT They live happily ever after!   3. Context • Be a good person – The Fairy Godmother helped Cinderella because she was kind of heart and the prince chose her over all the other girls, including her nasty step sisters • You can find love in unsuspecting places – Cinderella came from rags and yet she won the heart of the prince

  4. Cow’s Head - Ukraine • The same basic set up of the story applies, but Cinderella is Oksana and she has one step sister named Olena • When winter comes, food is scarce, so the step mother tell Oksana’s father to banish her, so he does • He takes her to a cottage in the forest and leaves her with nothing but a loaf of bread and some cheese, she knows this will not be enough so she sets a snare and catches a rabbit and finds some roots and berries • She makes a fire and turns the rabbit into stew • In the middle of the night, there is a knock at her door, but when she opens the door, no one is there • However, she look down to see a cow’s head with eyes that are glazed over and dead • The cow’s head tells her that it is cold and hungry and asks if it can eat her food and sleep by her fire • Even though she is scared, she feeds it, and makes sure it is cozy by the fire • In the morning, the cow’s head is gone and in its place are gorgeous gowns, gold, silver, and precious jewels • Her father is also at the door telling her to come home • She marries a handsome man shortly after returning home • When she tells everyone about the cow head, her step sister goes to the cottage and when the cow’s head appears, she is too lazy to serve it, and when she wakes up in the morning, her gowns are in rags and no man wishes to marry her

Context • Being a good person brings blessings – despite her fear, Oksana was kind to the cow’s head and because of her kindness, she was rewarded • This story was written in a time of • famine, when people believed that being • a good person would bring blessings and • good luck to their farms

  6. Kon-gy and Pot-gy • A long, long time ago, there were two sisters. The older sister's name was Kong-gy and the younger sister's name was Pot-gy. Kong-gy had a stepmother. The stepmother and Pot-gy disliked Kong-gy because she was so beautiful and kind; she was a lovely person. • Pot-gy was very ugly; she was also a greedy and selfish person. The stepmother and Pot-gy always made Kong-gy do house chores, but she never complained about that. • One day, a rich, young man held a party to look for a girl to be his bride. All of the young girls were invited to the party, but Kong-gy couldn't go because the stepmother ordered her to stay home and do house chores and told her not to go there. • While Kong-gy was doing the house chores, a frog appeared in front of her. The frog did all the house chores for her, so despite the stepmother's orders, she attended the party. • As soon as the young man saw her, he fell in love with her. He wanted to know more about her, but she left the party because she had to get back home before her stepmother came back home. • Leaving the party hurriedly, she lost her rubber shoe. When it came off and she lost it, they young man picked it up. He was able to find the beautiful Kong-gy because of her rubber shoe. They got married and lived happily ever after.
