  2. BELL RINGER What is a Two-Voice Poem? What is the PURPOSE of a two-voice poem? How is it structured? Use our FAVORITE six-sentence paragraph structure!

Write a Two-Voice Poem Your two-voice poem MUST: • Have one speaker that is a character from “Harrison Bergeron” • Have a second speaker that is a person who somehow relates to the character you choose from “Harrison Bergeron” • Be at least six lines (a total of 12 lines). TWO of which have to be lines for BOTH speakers.

  5. Topic Sentence: Some elements of dystopia in “Harrison Bergeron” are human misery and oppression. Support 1: George and Harrison are being oppressed by the government through the handicaps they are required to wear at all times. Elaboration 1: They are required to wear handicaps at all times in order to ensure that everyone is equal. Support 2: Human misery can also be seen in this text because people have never experienced true freedom.

  6. Elaboration 2: George has random sounds going off in his brain every twenty seconds, which never allows his mind to be free to truly think. He also has a forty pound bag of birdshot around his neck, which also keeps him from being physically free. Concluding Sentence: In conclusion, although the government wants everyone to be equal, the way that they have reached this equality is by oppressing the people and making their lives miserable.

  7. Two-Voice/Dual Voice Poem • A poem written for two people to perform/a poem that has two speakers. • Sometimes, the readers say the same thing at the same time. • For this poem, you would write from two different characters’ perspectives in the story.

  8. Two-Voice/Dual Voice Poem The purpose of this type of poem is to examine two points of view/perspectives and communicate how those perspectives compare and contrast in a poem with alternating verse.

  9. Two-Voice Poem Structure • A dual voice poem is normally structured in two columns, one for speaker one and one for speaker two. • Sometimes, dual voice poems are in three columns, the two outside columns for the speakers, and the middle column for the lines that both speakers say.
