This guide details how to effectively read and annotate two articles. Begin by chunking each article into three distinct sections. For every section, identify 2-5 key ideas and highlight them. Create a summary statement for each section, and write a comment about the content, like a question or a personal connection. When analyzing the second article, be sure to highlight similarities and differences with the first one to illustrate relationships between the texts. This structured approach fosters deeper understanding and critical thinking.

  1. Read and annotate • Read each article • Annotate in the following way • You will be writing about both of these articles – so do a good job  • Chunk each article into 3 sections. • For each section of each article – do the following • Mark 2-5 key ideas – underline/highlight • Make a summary statement on the left (or on a sticky note) for each section • Make at least one comment about content – a question, a connection, a thought about what is said. • On second article – also mark or make comments about similarities or differences with first. Make this REALLY OBVIOUS.
