The initial outcomes of the Environmental Noise Directive (END) reveal that 25% of the EU's population, approximately 121 million individuals, are exposed to significant noise pollution, primarily from road traffic. This analysis identifies 162 agglomerations as critical sources of noise, impacting millions of people in urban and rural areas. Key strategies moving forward include finalizing a comprehensive noise database, integrating data, and developing interactive noise contour maps to improve accessibility and understanding. Effective data collection processes are emphasized to enhance reporting accuracy and facilitate better future assessments.

Next steps • Data base finalised (completed + “clean”) • Data integration • Noise contour maps + NRL • Tabular data + NRL • Further explore the results • Use of additional sources (e.g. Urban Audit) • Spatial assessment • Provide a user-friendly platform to present the results (web interactive tool)
Remarks on Reportnet • Noise: • complex requirements, • a lot of information • need to ensure/facilitat data collection to reduce mistakes • Data not properly reported may be “useless” • What Reportnet offers: • Streamlining the process • One single place (Data dictionary, templates, QA) • Easy to keep track
QA on demand • QA to avoid/recognise “common” mistakes • Data format • Hundreds • Empty cells
Empty cells • Interesting to kow different situations: better assessment. • Use of 2 codes to indicate that data is not reported: • Below END thresholds • No major sources of noise (“0” has several meanings) • Data not mandatory / not YET available /not available
