  3. Which generation do you belong to? • The silent generation (born before 1946) • Generation jones aka Baby boomers (born between 1946-1965) • Generation x aka busters (born 1966-1976) • Generation y aka millennials (born 1977-1994) • Generation z aka internet generation (born 1995-2014)

  4. What does each generation teach us? • Each generation experiences life differently • Their perspective about the world, family, job, and life is different • The older generation: very traditional & conservative • The younger generation: open mindED & liberal to moderate • Examples: • Inviting family & friends to party • Marriage • job

  5. what’s the connection between these generations? • The older generation passes on the knowledge and wisdom to the younger generation • In a successful society, business, church, or family, the old generation passes on the torch to the younger generation. • What can we learn from nature? • The case of the salmon • The case of a forest

  6. The key to a successful succession • Author barbaradrapor, researcher on family businesses points out that the number 1 key is communication. • usually initiated by the older generation • We are here today to initiate this communication to you • The number 2 is “planning” • Example: globe manufacturing company spent 10 years just come up with a succession plan • We need to begin the process today

  7. The challenges hmong community face today • We do not like to share power • older leaders do not pass on the torch to younger generation • Examples • Clan • church

  8. The message today is: • We are passing the torch to you: generations y and internet • we need you to light up the way into the future • Clip of transformer • We need you to step up • God need you to step up today

  9. What does it mean to step up? • It means Take your faith to the next level • To step up for god • To step up for your spiritual growth • To Step up for generosity

  10. To step up for god • “When you bow down before the Lord and admit your dependence on him, he will lift you up and give you honor.” - James 4:10 • What are your faith goals? • Baptism? Attend confirmation classes? • Pray daily? • Read through the bible? • Short term mission? • Serve your church?

  11. Step up my spiritual growth • Am I consistent in reading the Bible and talking with God in prayer? “Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. If you do this, you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:6-7 • Am I fully participating in my weekly youth Group? “I'm eager to encourage you in your faith, but I also want to be encouraged by yours. In this way, each of us will be a blessing to the other.” - Romans 1:12 • Am I praying for, inviting and sharing my faith with those around me? “Live wisely among those who are not yet Christians, making the most of every opportunity.” - Colossians 4:5

  12. Step up for generosity • Time, money, service, etc. • examples “But since you excel in everything - in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us - see that you also excel in this grace of giving.” - 2 Corinthians 8:7

Think deep into yourself and answer the following questions (true or false) • I know for a certain that I am a follower of jesuschrist. • My faith is involved in every aspect of my life. • Because of my faith, I have meaning and purpose in my life. • My faith gives me an inner peace. • I’ve been baptized as a believer. • I’m a person of prayer. • My bible is a regular part of my life.

I’m a person who is spiritually committed. • I spend time in worship every week. • Because of my faith, I’ve forgiven people who have hurt me deeply. • My faith has called me to develop my given gifts and talents. • I will take unpopular stands to defend my faith. • I’m a committed member of a local church. • I speak words of kindness to those in need of encouragement. • I talk about my faith with those who are not yet Christians.

  15. The future generation • What you do today will impact the next generation • You will not be alone • God is with you • God is calling you to step up today, he will walk with you every step of the way until the end of time when our lord Christ returns. • Go in peace and serve the lord
