  2. Description • The Mechanics strand is designed to help students recognize career opportunities in the transportation industry and develop the knowledge, skills, & attitudes required to service & maintain transportation vehicles. Aaron Biro - CHHS Automotives Instructor

  4. Modules – The Math • 1 module complete = 1 credit earned • 1 module = approx. 25 hours to complete • 25 hours = approx. 18 classes • 1 semester = approx. 125 hours therefore • 1 semester = 5 credits Aaron Biro - CHHS Automotives Instructor

  5. Modules – Grading (typical) 40% Theory • 15% Booklet • 25% Test + 40% Practical + 20% Employability Skills = 100% of module completed Aaron Biro - CHHS Automotives Instructor

  6. Modules – Grading (a-typical) 0% to 20% Theory + 60% to 80% Practical + 20% Employability Skills = 100% of module completed *NOTE*this weighting system is used more frequently for higher level modules due to the increased emphasis of hands-on elements. Aaron Biro - CHHS Automotives Instructor

  9. Advanced Modules • Consists exclusivley of 3000-level modules • Few are prerequisites for higher level modules • Consists mostly of practical work supported by higher level theory & understanding • Module list & descriptions Aaron Biro - CHHS Automotives Instructor

Course Expectations • Respect the Rights & Property of Yourself & Others • Take pride & ownership in the work you do • Treat others the way you like to be treated • Be quiet while an instructor, peer, guest speaker, etc. is giving a group demo or instruction Aaron Biro - CHHS Automotives Instructor

Course Expectations • Leaving the Class • Ask the instructor for thehallway pass • Sign out using the sheet next to the entrance of the shop • Sign in when you return to class and return the hallway pass to your instructor • Leaving class early without persmission may result in extra clean-up duties • Leaving school grounds during class may result in being withdrawn from the course.   12. Course Expectations • Food & Drink • No food or drink allowed in the shop area • Food & drinks are allowed in the classroom but drinks should be in a re-sealible container • Clean up any garbage or left-overs Aaron Biro - CHHS Automotives Instructor

Course Expectations • Electronic Devices • All cell phones are to be turned off during class • Any student found continually using a cell phone may have it confiscated until the end of class • mP3 players are allowed to be used in the class only (NOT in the shop) • Remove all headphones while an instructor, peer, guest speaker, etc. is giving a demo, instructions, etc. Aaron Biro - CHHS Automotives Instructor

  14. Course Expectations • Dress Code • Cover-alls are provided and encouraged to be worn while working in the shop • Safety glasses are provided and are MANDATORY while working in the shop • No open-toed footwear is to be worn in the shop Aaron Biro - CHHS Automotives Instructor

  15. Course Expectations • Materials • Students should have something to write with every class • Pencils can be sold for 25¢ or traded for a personal item for the class Aaron Biro - CHHS Automotives Instructor

  16. Course Expectations • Language • No swearing • No offensive comments (racial, sexist, demeaning, etc.) Aaron Biro - CHHS Automotives Instructor

Course Expectations • Lates & Absences • All students are expected to be on time (5min. after the bell) • Doors may be locked after this time, wait until the instructor lets you enter • Unexcused lates may result in extra clean-up duties • Unexcused absences may result in being withdrawn from the course • All students are responsible for any work missed. Course Expectations • Clean Up Procedure • Clean up is called 10 min. before the end of class • Every student is expected to clean up their own mess by the end of class • This includes sweeping the floor, putting away tools & materials in their proper homes, cleaning shop equipment & workbenches, etc. • It is encouraged that every student help out regardless of the role they played in shop use that day Aaron Biro - CHHS Automotives Instructor

  19. Performance/Safety Contract • This contract is created & designed for students to play an active role in: • setting their goals for this course • understanding the learning outcomes of this course • acknowledging responsibility for their well-being during this course • The Contract Aaron Biro - CHHS Automotives Instructor
