  1. La Crucifixión de Jesús • The Crucifixion of Jesus

• Jesus delivered up to be crucified: Matt. 27:26, “Then he released Barrabas to them; and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified”.

• Stripped, they put a scarlet robe on him to mock him: Matt. 27:27, “Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus 28 And they stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him.”

• Crown of thorns, mocked: Matt. 27:29, “When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, ‘Hail, King of the Jews!’"

• Crucified between two criminals: Jn. 19:17, “And He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha, 18 where they crucified Him, and two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the center.”

• Simon of Cyrene compelled to carry cross: Mt. 27:32, “Now as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name. Him they compelled to bear His cross.”

• Lk. 23:27, And a great multitude of the people followed Him, and women who also mourned and lamented Him. But Jesus, turning to them, said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.”

V. 30 “Cubridnos”. • Jesus predicts destruction of Jerusalem: Lk. 23:29, "For indeed the days are coming in which they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, wombs that never bore, and breasts which never nursed!’” V. 30, “Cover us.”

• Fulfilled the Scripture several times:Lk. 23:33, “And when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left.” Mk. 15:28.

• No antesthesia for His suffering: Matt. 27:34, “they gave Him sour wine mingled with gall to drink. But when He had tasted it, He would not drink.” Read the seven sayings of Christ while on the cross.

  11. Jesús dispuesto a perdonarles: Luc. 23:34, “Y Jesús decía: Padre, perdónalos, (Mat. 5:44; Hech. 7:59,60), porque no saben lo que hacen” (Hech. 3:17; 1 Cor. 2:8). • Jesus was willing to forgive them: Lk. 23:34, “Then Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, (Mt 5:44; Acts 7:59,60), for they do not know what they do’" (Acts 3:17; 1 Cor. 2:8).

Jn. 19:23, 24. • Fulfilled the Scripture gambling for clothes: Lk. 23:34, “And they divided His garments and cast lots.” Jn. 19:23, 24.

• The crucifixion of Jesus: Review: Delivered, stripped of clothing, scarlet robe, carried His cross, “don’t weep for me,” between two criminals, without anesthesia, gambled for His clothes … Everything fulfilled Scripture.

Y estaba escrito: JESUS EL NAZARENO, EL REY DE LOS JUDIOS”. Judíos se quejaron, Jn. 19:21-22. • The cause of his death: Jn. 19:19, “Now Pilate wrote a title and put it on the cross. And the writing was: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.” Jews complained, Jn. 19:21-22.

• Saved others, couldn’t save himself: Lk. 23:35, “And the people stood looking on. But even the rulers with them sneered, saying, ‘He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ, the chosen of God.’” Repeated, v. 37, 39; Matt. 27:41-43.

• The thief on the cross: Lk. 23:39-43, one of the thieves repented. Jesus told him, “Today you will be with me in Paradise.” He is not an example of conversion for us. We imitate the cases of conversion in Acts of the Apostles.

• John to care for Mary: Jn. 19:25 Mary was near the cross. Behold your son (John). Behold your mother, he received her in his house (his brothers didn’t believe on him, Jn. 7:5; later they did, Acts 1:14; Gal. 1:19).

• What could He give to His mother and to the disciple whom He loved? To the soldiers He gave His clothing. To the thief He gave Paradise. To Mary and John He gave each other.

• The silent testimony of Mary. She could have saved Jesus’ life. “I am His mother, I know who His father is.” Her silence con-firmed that Jesus had no earthly father.

• Darkness over the land for three hours: Lk. 23:44, “Now it was about the sixth hour (noon), and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour (3:00 p.m.)” Dark-ness accompanies divine judgment.

  21. Dios mío ¿por qué me has desamparado? No aceptó culpa, sino pena. • My God, why have you forsaken me? Mt. 27:46, Quoting prophecy, Ps 22:1. Doesn’t say that God turned his back on him “because he was full of sin.” 2 Cor. 5:21, he became the sacrifice for sin. He accepted the punishment for sin, not the guilt.

• Hymn # 15, 3rd stanza, last line, “When the divine face withdrew from you”; last stanza, 2nd line, “In that same instant in which God left you.” The Bible does not say this. It does not say that God literally abandoned Jesus.

• God abandons those who abandon Him, 1 Chron. 28:9. Jn. 16:32, “you will leave me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.” Lk 23:34, “Father, forgive them”; 46, “in your hands I commend my spirit.”

• In what sense “forsaken”? He was not delivered from death (language of Psalm 22:5, 8), but v. 24, “nor has He hidden His face from Him; but when He cried to Him, He heard.”

Jn. 8:29. • He was expressing an unutterable, indes-cribable agony, an agony beyond our com-prehension, but God did not turn His back on Jesus, He did not abandon Him, He did not depart from Him, leaving Him to suffer alone on the cross. Jn. 8:29.

• I thirst. Jn. 19:28, “Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, "I thirst!” because of the inflammation of the wounds. Wounded soldiers say: thirst worse than wounds.

  27. Muerte y Sepultura de Jesús • Death and Burial of Jesus

Corresponde a Mat 27:50, “habiendo clamado a gran voz”. Lenguaje de triunfo, Jn. 12:32; Gén. 3:15; Heb. 2:14-15. • It is finished: Jn. 19:30, “So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!” Corresponds to Matt 27:50, “cried out with a loud voice.” Language of triumph Jn. 12:32; Gen. 3:15; Heb. 2:14,15.

• Delivered up His spirit. Jn. 19:30, “And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.” Jn 10:17, 18 “I lay down my life.” Now there would be no more scourgings, being spat upon, stripped … there would be no crown of thorns, mockery. It was finished!

No dice “mi espíritu humano”. Para ser hombre sólo necesitaba cuerpo, Heb. 10:4, 5. • Into your hands I commend my spirit: Lk. 23:46, “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit. And having said this, he breathed his last.” Does not say “my human spirit.” To be a man He only needed a body, Heb. 10:4, 5.

• Truly He was the Son of God: Mt. 27:54, “So when the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they feared greatly, saying, "Truly this was the Son of God!"

• The veil of the temple was torn in two; Mt. 27:51, “Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised.”

• He opened the way to heaven (Most Holy Place). Heb. 10:20, “new and living way that He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh.” Jn. 14:6, “I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father but by me.”

• Returned, beating their breasts: Lk. 23:48, “And the whole crowd who came together to that sight, seeing what had been done, beat their breasts and returned.” Change of attitude.

• With good reason they were cut to the heart: Acts 2:37, “Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?"

• Lk 23:49 “But all His acquaintances and the women who followed Him from Galilee, (ministering unto Him, Mt 27:55) stood at a distance, watching these things.” Last to leave the cross, first to come to empty tomb

• Jesus was dead. Unbelievers say that He fainted, wasn’t dead. An important factor: Jn. 19:31, Sabbath of great solemnity, Jews did not want to leave the bodies on the cross.

• Homicide o.k., but break Sabbath, no. Romans left bodies on cross to be destroyed by putrefaction or by animals and birds of prey.

• But Dt 21:22, 23, remove from tree. Jn 19:31, 32, they broke the legs of the two criminals. In that way they couldn’t recover and could be removed from the cross.

• Jesus was already dead. Jn. 19:33 “But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs. 34 But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.”Only fainted?

  41. Otras profecías cumplidas. Jn 19:36; Ex. 12:46 “ni quebraréis hueso suyo” (cordero pascual). Jn 19:37; Zac 12:10, “Mirarán al que traspasaron”. • Other prophecies fulfilled. Jn 19:36; Ex. 12:46 “nor shall you break one of its bones” (of Passover lamb). Jn 19:37; Zech 12:10, “They shall look on Me whom they pierced.”

• Today you will be me in Paradise” – not in other days or years. Therefore, he died that day. Another prophecy (that of Jesus) was fulfilled.

• John was a witness of the death of Jesus. Jn. 19:35, “And he who has seen has testified.” This is very important: Christ died for us. It is not possible to refute the eye-witness testimony of the apostle John.

• Joseph of Arimathea asked for the body of Jesus. Lk 23:50-52. Member of council that had not consented to their decision and deed. Secret disciple of Jesus. Was waiting for the kingdom of God.

• Nicodemus helped him. Jn 19:39 brought “a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds. Then they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in strips of linen with the spices.”

• Very significant. Apostles not in charge of body; very respected Jews were. Would not have buried a man alive (fainted). Pilate surprised that Jesus was dead, Mk 15:44; asked the centurion; he confirmed that Jesus was dead.

• Why so much emphasis on the death of Jesus? If Jesus was not dead, He was not resurrected and if not resurrected, we are still in our sins.

  48. La Tumba de Jesús • The Tomb of Jesus

Rom. 4:24, 25, resucitado para justificación • Why study about the tomb? In order to confirm the resurrection of Jesus (1 Cor. 15:1-4; 12-19). Each detail programmed by God, very important to erase all doubt. Rom. 4:24, 25, raised for our justification.
