  1. Drilling Bible Basics The Scheme of Redemption

  2. Scheme of Redemption • God’s plan through which man can obtain salvation from sin. • Encompasses human history; has been in place since the world began. • Romans 16:25,26 • Derived from wisdom hidden in God’s mind before the world began. • 1 Corinthians 2:7

  3. Galatians 3:15-19 • Paul summed up the scheme of redemption with the three main elements of God’s eternal plan. • Promise • Law • Faith—Gospel

  4. The Promise • Galatians 3:15-18 • Promise made to Abraham • Genesis 12:4; 22:18; 26:4; 28:14 • Galatians 3:8 • Blessing for all nations--justification by faith. • Why? Because of sin. • Romans 3:9-18 • Abraham’s seed = Christ • Justification is through faith in Christ. • No one can add to or annul this covenant.

  5. The Promise • God’s promise to Abraham was a covenant (agreement) that could not be changed, not even by the addition of the Law 430 years later. • Abraham received his inheritance by promise, not by law.

  6. Abraham The Promise All nations of the earth shall be blessed

  7. The Law • Galatians 3:19-25 • Purpose of Moses’ Law? • It was added because of SIN. • Was the Law against the Promise? • No. Because of sin, the Law, which demanded perfect law-keeping, could not give life. (Romans 7:7-13) • The promise is the sinner’s only hope.

  8. The Law • How long would the Law be in effect? • Till the Seed (Christ) should come. • The Law kept men under guard for the faith that would be revealed. • The law was an attendant, or escort, to bring men to Christ. • After faith in Christ has come, man no longer needs the attendant (Old Covenant).

  9. Added because of transgressions Abraham The Promise The Law Confined all under sin

  10. Faith—The Gospel • Galatians 3:26-29 • Justification of sinners by faith in the gospel of Christ (Romans 1:16,17; 3:21-24). • One obtains salvation by faith when he puts on Christ in baptism. • All saved are one in Christ—fulfills promise

  11. Sons of God by faith… Baptized into Christ – put on Christ Abraham The Promise Faith (Gospel) The Law No longer under “old covenant” All one in Christ Heirs according to the promise Abraham’s seed New Covenant

  12. Scheme of Redemption • The Promise • The Law • Faith—The Gospel— where we are today! Be rich in faith and an heir of the kingdom of God!
