  1. Bible Basics Sunday School Class Sunday, September 15, 2013 11:00 AM Conference Room

  2. Memory Verse • “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” - John 1:1 • What does this verse tell us? • The Word is Jesus Christ • Jesus is preexistent – He existed in the beginning • Jesus is coexistent – He exists alongside God • Jesus is divinely existent – He IS God • For the whole context, read John 1:1-18

  3. Today’s Lesson: Noah • Recap Noah’s story from Genesis 6-9 • Share thoughts on this week’s homework • Apply Noah’s story to our lives • Dig into one theme: waiting

  4. The Story Finds its Place in Me • Noah acted in obedience to God long before he saw evidence that God’s word would come true. What role does trust play in our obedience to God?

  5. The Story Finds its Place in Me • In spite of being named as one of our “fathers in the faith” Noah was an imperfect human being. And yet, God used him in a mighty way. In what ways have you felt “unusable” because of your own weaknesses?

  6. The Story Finds its Place in Me • During his months on the ark, Noah certainly must have wondered if the water would ever recede and if God would follow through on his promise. Think of a time in your life where you were tempted to think God had abandoned you. How did God prove to be faithful?

  7. The Story Finds its Place in Me • Have you ever been overwhelmed by God’s grace in your life? Talk about that experience as a group.

  8. One of Noah’s Themes: Waiting • One of the themes of Noah’s life was “waiting.” List some of the times he was waiting on something or someone. • Think of a time you had to wait a long time for something. What emotions did you experience during the waiting period?

  9. Wrap- Up • How can we use Noah’s story to better know, love, obey, serve, and worship God?

  10. Homework • Read Abraham’s story in Genesis 11:27 – 25:18 • Study his story using your Bible reference materials • Complete the homework handout • Check out the Sunday school blog at gracebiblebasics.wordpress.com
