DFS home folder reorganisation New Structure Current Structure • Content of the Desktop will be moved to \\cern.ch\dfs\Users\r\rotto\Desktop • Content of the Favorites will be moved to \\cern.ch\dfs\Users\r\rotto\Favorites • Content of \\cern.ch\dfs\Users\r\rotto will be moved to Documents subfolder with two exceptions: • Public folder will stay at the root (implies better security on Documents) • www folder will stay at the root • Two Vista specific folders will be added • Links • Contacts
Current Situation “Desktop”, “Favorites” and “My Documents” in 3 different locations Benefits “Per folder” quota management Limit connections to DFS servers Compliance with standards Currently optional (https://cern.ch/WinServices/Services/UserAccounts/AccountStatus.aspx - click “Reorganize”) Soon new users will have this layout End of summer all users will be moved Needed for use with Vista!! A.O.B • Registering Official Trips in EDH • I would like to remind that people must fill a “official trip leave” request and use the “comment” field to clearly indicate the conference, workshop, meeting, etc. • Backup of local files • User space in AFS/DFS are normally backup by the IT services • You personally need to ensure that valuable files in your local disks (desktop, laptop) are regularly copied or replicated to safe storage
