The two strains were JM101 (wild type, u) and PB11 (∆ptsHI crr, n). Growth was conducted as described in Figure 2. The addition of cyclic AMP (0.25, 0.5, 1.0 or 2.5 mM; all other symbols) to the medium did not promote detectable growth. Concentrations of cyclic AMP up to 1.0 mM did not inhibit growth of the wild-type strain and 2.5 mM cyclic AMP inhibited only 30%.
