Apprenticeships ICAEW working with PwC on the Higher Apprenticeships in assurance The Higher Apprenticeship in assurance/audit is open to anyone who is 18 years old and above; whether they are just leaving school, have been working for years, or are seeking to start a new career. Apprentices will develop technical skills to enable them to understand the accounting and technical theory as well as putting these skills into practice while working for an employer during the programme. This combination of work experience and technical knowledge will mean by the end of the programme Apprentices will have the knowledge and skills required for a successful career in the professional services sector. Around 4,230 salaried apprenticeships will be funded as part of the Government’s £25m Higher Level Apprenticeships initiative. The Government’s objectives are threefold: To tackle current skills shortages in these areas – e.g. by the year 2030, European airlines need to recruit 92,500 new pilots and the UK needs to train an extra 96,300 engineers by 2016 To increase parity of esteem between full time degree courses and Higher apprenticeships To increase participation in pilot training by female apprentices (only 4% of registered commercial airline pilots are women). To increase social mobility by 'opening new doors' to the professions Employers who will be involved in the new apprenticeships include British Airways, Unilever, UK space agency and PricewaterhouseCoopers. City & Guilds will have responsibility for running the Higher Level Apprenticeship scheme for commercial pilots. 45. Private & Public Unis PRIVATE unis PUBLIC unis In second place? Princeton University, which boasts nearly nonexistent student debt rates due to one of the most generous financial aid programs in the nation. Outside of Princeton and Harvard (#6), Ivy League schools fare relatively poorly, suggesting that their reputations might be a bit overblown.  Yale (#14), Brown (#21) and Dartmouth (#30) crack the top 5%, but the other Ivies – Columbia (#42), Cornell (#51) University of Pennsylvania (#52) — do not.

  46. QUALITY ASSESSMENT?

  47. League tables in Spain, France,Holland, Switz, Germany etc? As far as I am aware, linked to the fact that these are state financed, and the different university entrance requirements in Germany from one university to another for different Lände, there are no league tables in Spain or Germany. « Le Figaro » published the first ever league tables for French universities three years ago.

  48. French League tables See the French section of the IST Careers website (under « School Life ») for link to the full league tables document.
