This course is structured around 6 Tuesday lectures and emphasizes the importance of submitting lecture diaries. These diaries should summarize key points, offer a critical perspective, and showcase your understanding. Avoid direct copying of lecture content and aim to demonstrate logical connections. Diaries must be submitted individually and in one document by a set deadline.

Course practicalities • The lectures create the backbone of the course • 6 lectures, each Tuesday at 10:15-12:00 • The main information channel of the course is NOPPA • Passing the course: A) Submitting 5 lecture diaries OR B) Passing an exam (however, we do not recommend this option) • Exam material consists of OSKARI2008 report + lectures • The report is available at: http://www.sbl.tkk.fi/oskari/material/Finnish_Software_Industry_Survey_2008.pdf
Writing your lecture diary • A lecture diary summarizes the essential elements of a lecture, gives critical view of the discussed topic(s) and points out your own way of understanding • Do not copy lecturing slides (!) but use your own words, figures, mind maps, charts, etc. to show the logical connections of the lecture topics • Lecture diary != lecture notes Its purpose is to develop critical thinking and reassure that you have got a grip what was discussed • Note that you probably don’t have time to write the diary during the lecture (you make only short notes) but you should write the complete version as soon as possible (when you still remember the lecture) • The lecture diaries are to be done individually and not in groups • A well-done lecture diary shows thinking, reflection and understanding of the discussed topics!
