  1. Multiplication

  2. 6 2 + 2 + 2 = Multiplication is the process of adding equal sets together. We added 2 three times.

  3. Instead of repeatedly adding, we can multiply. 3 x 2 6

  4. This means “3 groups of 2 equals 6 in all”. 3 x 2 6

  5. This means “2 groups of 3 equals 6 in all”. 2 x 3 6

  6. This means “3 groups of 4 equals 12 in all”. 3 x 4 12

  7. This means “4 groups of 3 equals 12 in all”. 4 x 3 12

  8. This means “2 groups of 6 equals 12 in all”. 2 x 6 12

  9. We can also use multiplication to find the total number in this set without having to count them.

  10. 6 3 3 x 6 = 18

  11. Or we can turn it the other way and show it like this.

  12. 3 6 6 x 3 = 18

  13. Example

  14. 1) complete: 7 7 14 a)7 X 2 = ….…… + ………. = ………. 9 9 9 9 • 9 X 4 = ….. + …… + ……. +……. 36 = ……..

  15. 2) complete: 5 a) 7 X 5 = ……. X 7 8 4 b) 4 X ….… = 8 X …….

  16. 3) complete: 2 a)(7 X 6) = (7 X 4) + (7 X ……) 5 6 b) (6 X 9) = (6 X ….) + (. … X 4) 5 2 c) ( 5 X 8) = (… X 10 ) - ( 5 X … )

  17. 4) complete 4 a) 3 X 4 X 5 = 5 X 3 X …….. 2 b) 9 X 5X …… = 9 X 10 4 c) 6 X 2 X 2 = 6 X ……..

  18. 5) complete: 3 a) 7 X 12 = 7 X 9 + 7 X…….. 63 21 = …… + ……. 84 = ……..

  19. Multiplying X 10 • If we multiply any number by 10, we put the same number in tens digit and put (0) in units digit

  20. 1) complete: 50 a)10 X 5 = …..….. 160 b)16 X 10 = ……….. 3800 c)380 X 10 = ……….

  21. 2) complete: 15 150 a) 5 X 3 X 10 = ……. X 10 = ………. . 4 10 120 b)3 X …..… X 10 = 12 X ……. = ……..…. 5 350 c)10 X 7 X …… = 10 X 35 = ..………..

  22. Multiplying X100 • If we multiply any number by 100, we put the same number in hundreds digit and put (00) in units, tens digit.

  23. 1) compete: 700 • 7 X 100 = …..…….. 1500 b) 100 X 15 = ……….. 14600 c) 146 X 100 = ……….

  24. 2) complete: 6 600 a) 3 X 2 X 100 = …… X 100 = …….. 5 100 1500 b) 3 X …. X 100 = 15 X ……. = …… 2 8 1600 c) 8X…..X…… = 16 X 100 = ……… 4 4

  25. If you know that “(1 meter = 100 Centimeters)” complete: a) 7 m. = ………. Cm . b) 85 m. = …….... Cm . c) …… m. = 500 Cm . d) …… m. = 16000 Cm .
