  1. 1,000,000 ways to wellbeing? Episode 4. A new hope

  2. Eras of healthcare

  3. Era of systems & creativity "Think like a system, act like an entrepreneur"(Ian Burbidge, RSA 2017) • Systems thinking been around for years • Insufficient grasp that health and care services are ‘human systems’ • Requires: • Relationships based on deep listening • Recognition that problems cannot be solved by single organisations • Creativity and agility

  4. The challenges • How to release creativity and energy within the system, including and especially in our communities? • How to recognise diversity and inequality of opportunity, perspectives, priorities and capacity? • How to ensure resource is used effectively whilst not overburdening ourselves in process and bureaucracy?

  5. How do we respond? • A simple, shared mission that: • Posits an aim that everyone can get behind and work out their contribution • Can have plural, flexible and diverse elements • Can be measured proportionately • E.g. Getting a man to the moon and back safely

  6. A mission A million ways to wellbeing in Norwich; What’s yours?

  7. What does that mean??

  8. Why a million? 240,000 x 5 = over a million!!

  9. Theory of change

  10. Evaluation ideas

  11. Targeting to reduce inequality • Males are more likely to be active, whereas females are more likely to give and connect. • People from lower socio-economic groups are less likely to be active, give and keep learning. • The older people are, the less likely they are to keep learning and be active. • However, for both Connect and Give, the trend follows a U curve, with people aged 16-25 and 65-74 most likely to engage in these activities. • People with qualifications are more likely to keep learning and give.

  12. Opportunity • Cohere approach to preventing the drivers of poor health and wellbeing • Develop universal messages with cohort or geographic targeted interventions • Align existing initiatives at high-level • Provide framework to inform future commissioning and service development • Start a fire…

  13. 1,000,000 ways to wellbeing Who’s up for it? What do we need to do??
