My Great Great Great grandfather was a fur trade officer in the Hudson's Bay company and a part of the Riel rebellion.

The fur trade as a whole • existed within all areas of Canada. • Early 1600 – late 1800 • Need of furs was great in Europe • Animal born trapped and traded • Traded for weapons and comfort things • 16 beavers = 1 gun in America. 16 guns = 1beaver in Europe.
Would I have wanted to be a fur trader ? • Wages • Moving away from family • Making deals • Scary new world • Isolation
Pay. • I would have better wages in Canada
Moving away from home • Sad • I would have to move away from family. • only officers ( the highest ranking employees ) could visit home every 2 - 3 years • Letters took forever if they arrived at all
Making Deals • I enjoy making deals • Being a fur trader would let me do that for a living.
New world • Going to a new world would be scary • I know I would be scared. • That's the dude who discovered America
