  1. United WayWeekly Spotlight Helping Hands of Georgetown Serves persons in need from crisis situations and special needs requests. The food pantry distributes 2,000 - 3,000 pounds of food per month.  During the summer months, more stress is placed on the local food pantry because children are home from school and households require more food to compensate for the breakfast and lunches the schools provide when in session. From January to July 2012 Helping Hands provided the following assistance to families: 1,462 adults & children were assisted with utility bills, covered costs of prescriptions, dental bills, lodging or temporary living expenses. 1,885 adults & children were assisted with food and items for infant and toddler children. 1,837 adults & children were assisted with clothing and household items. Total helped during this time period equals 5,184.  The case managers work with these individuals to help them get back on their feet and become independent after a major set back in their lives due to situations such as loss of employment and/or eviction from residences.

  2. United WayWeekly Spotlight Miss Ruby's Kids A home-based literacy and parenting program for families challenged by poverty and low levels of education.
