Saint Petersburg. Saint Petersburg was founded by Tsar Peter the Great on May 27 1703. Saint Petersburg is situated about 700 km northwest of Moscow. T he name of the city was changed to “ Petrograd ” i n 1914 , in 1924 to “Leningrad” and in 1991 back to “ St .Petersburg”.
