  2. What can you tell a foreigner about St.Petersburg? • This northern city on the Neva River is a city of magic beauty sung by poets, a city of marvellous ‘’white nights’’, a city of broad straight avenues, green parks, bridges and canals.

  3. How St. Petersburg was founded • St. Petersburg was founded by Peter the First in1703.The Peter and Paul fortress foundation ceremony was held onMay16. The ‘’window to Europe’’ was opened.

  5. Music fixed in stone • The city is called ‘’A Museum in the Open Air ‘’. • It’s architecture is fantastic. Many buildings are masterpieces of the world architecture.

  6. The Сity of Bridges • The Neva is 74 km long. It is 300-650m wide. It is a very dangerous river, there have been more than 300 floods in St. Petersburg.

  7. The Hermitage • The Hermitage is the largest museum in our country. It comprises five buildings, the oldest one is Winter Palace (B. Rastrelli,1754-1762).The museum was founded in the year of 1764.It contains paintings, drawings, sculptures from different countries of the world.

  8. The Russian Museum • The Russian Museum houses more than300,000 items, including paintings, sculptures, water-colours and works of folk art. The palace was built by Carlo Rossi in1825.

  9. ‘’Nobody and nothing is forgotten’’ • September 8,1941the Nazy troops effected a complete blockade of the city. The siege lasted for 900 days. What was done by Leningraders will always remain in the memory of generation.
