2. AIR and IPEDS • The Association for Institutional Research is a professional association of institutional researchers, planners, and decision-makers from higher education institutions around the world. AIR exists to benefit its members and to help advance research that improves the understanding, planning, and operation of higher education institutions. • AIR provides respondent training, research, and dissemination activities for IPEDS under a contract with RTI International and NCES.

3. Webinars and Web-based Tutorials • Web-based, Webinars available both live-interactive and recorded • Separate Sections for Different Institutional Sectors • Covers data supply and data usage • Provide background information, step-by-step instruction, and screen shots • Live Webinars scheduled immediately prior to the Fall, winter and Spring Collections

4. Data Policy Institute • Annual two-week training on the use of national databases for postsecondary educational research. • Includes hands-on sessions led by national survey directors and policy seminars led by experts in postsecondary education policy. • Attendance is based on an application process. Accepted applicants receive an all expenses paid Fellowship to the Institute. 2007 deadline: January 15, 2007.

6. Data and Decisions Workshops • Sector-specific workshops on using national data for strategic decision making • Team approach involves institutional researchers, academic officers, financial officers, and other decision makers • Co-sponsored by Council for Independent Colleges and American Association of Community Colleges

7. Training Programs • Supported by AIR-affiliated professional associations • Training sessions are half- or one-day workshops on technical aspects of IPEDS changes, data collections, Peer Analysis, and COOL • Annual workshop offered at the AIR Forum

8. IPEDS Teaching Institute • Trains forty trainers and/or IPEDS coordinators to serve as IPEDS trainers at state, regional, and national workshops. • Topics include IPEDS changes, provision of data, use of IPEDS data use tools, and the impact of data systems and technology. • The next workshop is scheduled for June 19-23.

9. National Data Training Network • AIR Web site and electronic resources http://www.airweb.org • Online IPEDS training calendar • Provides grants and other assistance for the coordination of IPEDS training sessions and other training to increase institutional research capacity

Training Sessions Scheduled • April 20—22, 2006: AIR-CIC Data and Decisions Workshop, Hartford. • May 15: IPEDS Workshop at AIR Forum; Chicago • June 12: IPEDS/PAS workshops for NJAIR in South Orange, NJ • July 23-26: IPEDS/PAS workshops at the SACCR Conference in Nashville, TN • July 28-29: IPEDS/PAS Workshop for Tribal Colleges at Salish-Kootenai College, Pablo, MT • October 2006: AIR-CIC Data and Decisions Workshop, Charlotte, NC. • October-December: IPEDS workshops at AIR Regional Affiliate meetings.
