  3. Tests for Juniors • ACT – 04/02/19 – free required test for all Juniors • Other Dates – www.actstudent.org

  4. ACT Prep • ACT Prep Classes • Sycamore Learning Co. – 9/24 & 9/25 - $85 • Information on other prep choices – available in the Guidance Office.

  5. ACT vs SAT ACT assesses knowledge of subjects taught in high school ACT – 4 major sections – Eng., Math, Reading and Science Popular in Midwest and South _______________________________________ SAT assesses how well a student analyzes and solves problems SAT – 3 major sections – Math, Reading and Writing Popular on the East and West coasts

  6. Tests… SAT – National tests dates are on www.collegeboard.org PSAT – 10/24/18- sign up in guidance - $16

  7. Tests • ASVAB – 01/23/19 – Free! • TN Ready – English, Alg. 2, US History • AP Exams – May 2019

  8. TN Promise • Approx. $8,000 over 2 years at Community College or TCAT. • Senior year – Apply by Nov. 1st • Attend 2 mandatory meetings • 8 hours of community service • Become a TN Promise Mentor – go to www.tnpromise.gov and click on volunteer to become a mentor.

  9. HOPE Scholarship $16,000 over 4 years at 4 year University GPA of 3.0 (by the end of senior year) or a 21 on ACT FAFSA application must be completed in order to receive the Hope Scholarship. - Senior year

  10. TN Scholar Requirements • GPA 2.0 or above • 95% attendance • 80 hours of Community Service • Any combination of 2 CTE credits, AP classes, Dual Enrollment classes or Fine Art classes • No Out of School Suspensions

  11. Graduating with Academic Honors • Graduation with Honors *Students who score at, or above, all of the subject readiness benchmarks on the ACT or equivalent score on the SAT will graduate with honors. *Readiness Benchmarks: English – 18 Math – 22 Reading – 22 Science - 23

Academic Honors • Graduation with Distinction – Students will be recognized by attaining a “B” average and completing one of the following: • Earn a nationally recognized industry certification. • Participate in at least one of the Governor’s Schools. • Participate in one of the state’s All-State musical organizations.

  13. Graduation with Distinction • Be selected as either a National Merit Finalist or Semi-Finalist (this is determined by PSAT score). • Attain a composite ACT score of 31 or higher. • Attain a score of 3 or higher on at least 2 AP exams. • Earn 12 or more semester hours of transcriptedcollege credit.

  14. Preparing for College • Be Proactive – Use the internet to become familiar with college/tech school applications and deadlines for applying and scholarship opportunities. • Attend college fairs. • Talk to campus representatives when they visit our school. • Visit college campuses during breaks. • Prepare for the ACT. • Challenge yourself with AP, DE and Honor Classes
