Balanga City Profile Characteristics of the city: The eastern part of the City is urbanized catering for the commercial, residential and institutional establishments, while the western part is rural, which is devoted for residential, agriculture, pasture, grassland and forests.  The sea jurisdiction of the City is part of the Manila Bay, which cater for small-scale and sustenance fishing. BALANGA CITY TRANSPORT PROFILE • Total road length: 145.064 km • Road type: 81% concrete; 12% gravel; 7% asphalt • Bike and jogging lane • Modes of transportation: • Internal/Main: tricycles (3,054 units) • External: jeepneys, UV express and buses • Others: Private vehicles, trucks, motorcycles, bikes • Two major highways: • National highway (VCR: 0.63 to 0.75 – unstable flow, nearly restricted speed) • Roman Superhighway (VCR: 0.52 to 0.63 – stable flow, restricted in selecting their speed) CITIES

ACTION PLANNING FOR SUM Balanga City’s challenges • Heavy traffic during rush hours (6 to 8 am and 4 to 6 pm) • On street tricycle terminals for boarding and alighting • Dominated by tricycles (privately owned) - 3,054 units • Fare overpricing in tricycles • No fixed route (tricycle) • Air pollution from vehicles • Narrow road in some areas • Insufficient sidewalks, ramps for PWDs (city proper), traffic signal • Road crashes/accidents (2016: 25; 2017: 29) • Major roads prone to flood • Sidewalk parking (No parking facilities) CITIES
