Steps to order Decimal numbers 1. Set up a table as given below with a Decimal point column and Put each number according to place value 2. Fill empty boxes with 0’s in the Decimal part of the number 3. Compare starting from the first columns (Ones) If digits are equal move to the next column to the right and repeat until the digits are different.
Example 1:- Arrange the Decimals in ascending order. 4.3, 5.8, 3.75, 8.12, 7.34 Solution:- Step 1:- Write each number in the table with Decimal point column Step 2- Fill empty Decimalparts with 0’s 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
2nd 3rd 1st 5th 4th Step 3:- Compare starting from the first column (Ones) For ascending order pick smallest first So 3.75 with smallest value 3in ones place is 1st . 4.3, with next smallest value 4 in ones place is 2nd . 5.8, with next smallest value 5 in ones place is 3rd . 7.34, with next smallest value 7 in ones place is 4th . 8.12 , with next smallest value 8 in ones place is 5th Answer:- 3.75, 4.3, 5.8, 7.34, 8.12
Example 2:- Arrange the Decimals in descending order. 9.7, 2.6, 6.32, 1.97, 5.8 Solution:- Step 1:- Write each number in the table with Decimal point column Step 2- Fill empty Decimalparts with 0’s 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0

Example 3:- Arrange the Decimals in smallest to greatest. 2.3, 3.2, 4.1, 2.9, 3.28 Solution:- Step 1:- Write each number in the table with Decimal point column Step 2- Fill empty Decimalparts with 0’s 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
1st 2nd • Step 3:- Compare starting from the first column (Ones) • We have to pick smallest number first • We have 2 Decimal number 2.3 and 2.9 having same smallest value 2 in its ones place, • so we have to look at next column to its right (Tenths) • 2.3, with smallest value 3 in ones place is 1st. • 2.9, with next smallest value 9 in ones place is 2nd.

The tenths column are also same so we look the next column to its right(Hundredths) 3.20, with smallest value 0 in hundredths place is 3rd. 3.28, with next smallest value 8 in hundredths place is 4th. (iii) 4.1 , with next smallest value 1 in ones place is 5th Answer:- 2.3, 2.9, 3.2, 3.28, 4.1
Example 4:- Arrange the Decimals in descending order. 2.3, 0.4, 1.37, 0.48, 1.34 Solution:- Step 1:- Write each number in the table with Decimal point column Step 2- Fill empty Decimalparts with 0’s 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
1st 2nd 3rd Step 3:- Compare starting from the first column (Ones) We have to pick biggest number first (i) So 2.3 with biggest value 2 in ones place is 1st . (ii) We have 2 Decimal number 1.37 and 1.34 having next same biggest value 1 in its ones place, so we have to look at next column to its right (Tenths) The tenths column are also same so we look at the next column to its right(Hundredths) 1.37, with biggest value 7 in hundredths place is 2nd. 1.34, with next biggest value 4 in hundredths place is 3rd.

The tenths column are also same so we look the next column to its right(Hundredths) 0.48, with smallest value 8 in hundredths place is 4th. 0.40, with next smallest value 0 in hundredths place is 5th. Answer:- 2.3, 1.37, 1.34, 0.48, 0.4
