  5. Passing Tone – Fills in gaps by step

  6. Accented Passing Tone – Occurs on the beat

  7. Neighbor Tone – Moving by step up or down and returning to original note. Unaccented Accented

  8. Neighbor Tone – Moving by step up or down and returning to original note. Accented Unaccented

  9. Escape Tone – FIRE! Escape!! Step to the window and LEAP to the ground!

  10. Appoggiatura – Opposite from escape. Approach by SKIP leave by STEP, accented.

  11. Anticipation – So excited, the chord note is played early.

  12. Retardation – Keeps note same and steps up Suspension – Keeps note same and steps down

  13. Suspension – Often includes figured bass numbers

  14. Changing Tone – Two successive NHTs

  15. Pedal Tone – Held or repeated note usually in bass, goes through consonant and dissonant harmonies
