  2. Index Bermaco - Paddy Straw fired biomass Projects Status Snapshots Benefits of Biomass Power Projects Key challenges in O&M Need for Policy Support Fuel Company Strength Fuel Logistics Fuel Collection System Fuel Collection - Line Diagram Mission
  3. BERMACO ENERGY LIMITED PUNJAB :IL&FS-BERMACO 108 MW BIHAR :IL&FS-PTC-BERMACO 312 MW TOTAL 420 MW
  4. BIOMASS POWER PLANT Bermaco has successfully implemented a Paddy Straw fired Biomass Power Project at Ghanaur in the district of Patiala. The Project is first of its kind in the world, where no other Biomass Project is commissioned on 100% Paddy straw. The Project Details are as follows- Location: Village : Ghanaur, Patiala District, Punjab Plant Capacity : 12 MW Plant Configuration : 60 TPH Boiler 12 MW Condensing Steam Turbine Generator Fuel : Paddy Straw
  5. Snapshots – 12 MW Paddy Straw fired Biomass Power Plant at Ghanour Burning of Paddy Straw in Field by Farmers Baling in paddy field Transportation of baled straw Trolley being weighed One of the Fuel Storage Depot to one of the Collection Centerat one of the Collection Center 12 MW Paddy straw-fired Fuel Handling System Turbine & Generator O&M Team Power Plant at Ghanour, Patiala, Punjab
  6. Benefits of Paddy Straw fired Biomass Power Projects Most abundantly available Biomass across most States in India. Energy/Power Potential available from Paddy Straw remains untapped. Employment DIRECT Project Construction Phase Fuel Management Co. Operation & Maintenance Employment of 200 persons per Plant INDIRECT Continuous Power Supply results in various small Units / Job opportunities Co-operatives formed to ensure regular supply of Fuel to the Plant Transportation related Employment Mechanics / Machine Shops
  7. Key Challenges in O&M Unique Physical & Chemical Properties of Paddy Straw Collection Storage & Transportation Handling & Feeding Combustion Technology Issues
  8. Need For Policy Support Tariff to commensurate with cost of Generation Capital cost of Rs. 6.50 Crores / MW Specific fuel consumption - Inherent feature of lower efficiency compared to woody biomass & rice husk Other O&M cost – Due to high cost of fuel preparation Auxiliary consumption – Due to consumption on account of fuel preparation Lower PLF Duty Exemption on Equipments used Fuel Price Security Ban on Burning of Paddy Straw in Field
  9. Biomass Fuel Management Company Fuel Management Company to mitigate the risk of non-availability of fuel to Biomass Power Plant and de-risk the IPPs. The Fuel Management Company is handling supply of approx. 700MT of biomass on a daily basis. Supplying Paddy Straw to 12MW Paddy Straw fired Power Plant of Punjab Biomass Power Ltd. at Ghanour, Punjab and Cotton Stalk, Maize Corb, etc. for 13MW Biomass Power Plant of GAPS Power and Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. at Aurangabad, Maharashtra. The Fuel Company takes care of the biomass procurement, transportation, storage, supply chain, security and insurance to deliver Biomass to IPPs and thereby reduces the risk of non-availability of fuel. For the financial institutions also, lending to the Project becomes easier, as there is a fuel supply arrangement in place and it de-risks the power project.
  10. Biomass Fuel Management Company FUEL LOGISTICS Paddy Straw Bale Transportation to Collection Center Baler and Harvester in action Paddy Field Our fuel System - From collection to feeding. Storage in fuel depot Transported to plant for storage at open storage area Fuel fed to boiler Cutting of fuel
  11. Fuel Collection System adopted by the Biomass Fuel Management Company (contd..) Pre-operative Activities before collection season Start four-five months before the harvest season. Survey and Feedback recording Identification and preparation of collection centers Advertisement in catchment area of IPP through local newspaper, TV media, Village Panchayat, Co-operative societies, religious places Identifying and contracting with labourcontractors, fuel contractors, Harvester contractors and VLEs. Seeking help from Local Administration to ban farmers from burning the biomass.
  12. Fuel Collection System adopted by the Biomass Fuel Management Company Operational Activity after the Harvest Season: Baling in fields. Management of various contractors / VLEs / Farmers. Target and incentive oriented collection strategy - Field Officers, Technicians, Collection centers, Contractors (Balers, labourers). Collection and Storage of biomass done scientifically. Transporting Biomass from Field to CC-to Plant Fuel safety Management ensured. Continuous Training and Workshop for unskilled sector.
