  2. Achieved Answer • Studentdescribes how the factors identified influenced their performance after a programme of practice. Event: Hammer Throw Factor 1: technique • How did the factor affect your pre-test? For the pre-test my technique wasn’t very good and the hammer did not fly straight as I knew little about the correct technique. • What did you do to improve in relation to this factor? I read the coaching cards and practised my technique • How did these actions affect your final performance? My hammer throw was much better and I threw it 34 m, 5 m further than the pre-test. The technique information on the card and practising helped me improve. I learnt to release the hammer a little earlier so it didn’t go flying out to the side.

  3. Merit Answer • Student explains how the factors identified influenced their performance after a programme of practice. Event: Hammer Throw Factor 1: technique • How did the factor affect your pre-test? For the pre-test my technique wasn’t very good and the hammer did not fly straight I knew little about the correct technique. • What did you do to improve in relation to this factor? I read the coaching cards and learnt the correct grip, setup position and when to release the hammer. • How did these actions affect your final performance? My final hammer throw was much better, I threw 34m, 5m further than the pre-test. By reading the technique cards I learnt how to grip the hammer and set up for the throw correctly. This helped me to release it at the right time. By practising the correct technique, It helped me throw the hammer straighter and use my body more in the throw. Practising also made me more consistent.

  4. Excellent Answer • Student evaluates how the factors identified influenced their performance after a programme of practice. Event: Hammer Throw Factor 1: technique • How did the factor affect your pre-test? For the pre-test my technique wasn’t very good and the hammer did not fly straight I knew little about the correct technique. • What did you do to improve in relation to this factor? I read the coaching cards, track and field books and looked on the internet. I was also able to get some feedback from an Athletics Coach. This helped me to learn the correct grip, setup position and when to release the hammer. • How did these actions affect your final performance? My final hammer throw was much better, I threw 34m, 5m further than the pre-test. The diagrams on the technique cards showed me how to hold the hammer correctly and where to position my arms, legs and body for the set up to throw. This made me use my larger muscles better and follow through to get further distance. It helped getting some feedback from an Athletics coach. His feedback helped me to release the hammer at the correct time, allowing it to travel straight which resulted in a longer throw.
