Transfemoral vs. Transapical Aortic Valve Replacement TRANSFEMORAL • Surgeon not required • Anesthesiology presence preferred, even if sedation • 83–100% successful implementation (6 papers, N = 181) • Good early success, higher stroke rate (2.5–10%, 4 papers, N = 249) • Probably shorter hospitalization TRANSAPICAL • Surgeon required • Anesthesiologist definitely required, possible double-lumen tube • 100% successful implementation (5 papers, N = 116) • Lower stroke rate (0–4%, 4 papers, N = 109) • Shorter hospitalization than partial sternotomy?
