Starter 1 Read over the comments in your book from last lesson to understand what you need to improve on for your CASS. 2 Look at the twp pictures above – what are the stories and why they been in the news?

  3. Key Words: • Knowledge, Understanding & Application are expected of you at this stage. • You should have now completed 5 pieces of independent research Homework. (You need at least 4!) Research – diligent & systematic investigation into a subject to discover facts/ theories etc. Today we will work on improving on your skills of a analysis, synthesis & evaluation especially with reference to using ALL of the arguments in your source book and your research homework. Analysis – To examine in detail in order to discover meaning and essential features. To look at more than one side of the argument. Synthesis – separating and understanding all theories and arguments and forming your own opinion from this. Evaluation – To judge, assess & determine the weight of the argument referring to your own research , critical analysis and synthesis of the key points on all sides,

The key Questions to ask yourself: 1 Have you now completed all research homeworks ( NB: 1 hour research for each – thus 5 hours at least in total ) on the following and listed your sources? • What are free schools and why were they introduced? • What are Charter schools – arguments for and against? • Parents, teachers, Teaching union & main political party views on free schools? (more than one of each). • What are the arguments for and against Free schools in Sweden ? • Research some business and charity views on free schools eg are they keen to get involved and why? 2 Have you been getting to grips with all the arguments of your source book so that you feel confident to write about them without having to rely on copying from it? 3 Have you brought your source book into every lesson & highlighted key arguments from it? 4 Did you make a real effort last time with your practice assignment? 5 Have you been focussed, listening and participating in class over the last 6 weeks? 6 Are you fully prepared 100% for this CASS?

  5. Starter Keys Who/ what/ When/ Where & Why? • Who introduced Free Schools? • What are free Schools? • When did they and how many? • Where are these free schools and think about similar ones elsewhere? • Why where they introduced – any evidence yet from here or elsewhere?

Key Arguments and sourcing: • Government argument and opposing political Party arguments. • Parents arguments – for & against? • Teachers arguments – for and against? • The Teaching Union arguments? • Charter Schools – evidence for/ against? • Swedish Free Schools – evidence for and against. • The Privatisation of education – profit argument – for / against? • Business views on investing and having a say in schools eg what pupils learn. • Charity and/or faith group views. • Your View based on all the evidence

  7. Plenary • Do you know your target grade and are you on target to get it for this piece of CASS? • Do you understand what you need to have prepared for next week? How much time will you have to put towards doing this? • What will happen if you DO NOT bring at least 4 pieces of independent research with you covering the key homework questions? • What happens if you forget your source book and class book next week? • Why is it important to get a good night’s sleep beforehand and a good breakfast in the morning. • What time should you get to school next Wednesday? • Where must you go to for the CASS? • It will be for 2 hours no break until afterwards – would be a good idea to bring a snack for afterwards as only grab and go will be open.
