Intimate relationships • Where there are very close bonds between people, and typically but not necessarily, where people feel and express their love for each other. • Examples are the relationships between friends, siblings parents and children ( or other family members), a couple in a sexual or non sexual relationship.
Less Intimate relationships • Between people who are known to each other, who interact and communicate. E.g peers at school, work colleagues, members of a team/ community
Distant or impersonal relationships People providing a service such as retailer, other people who live or work or are present in the community but aren’t generally known to each other.
Friendships are important… • Provide: • Security • Companionship • Someone to talk to • Someone to share experiences with • Learn from
Friendships change over time • When children grow into adolescents it’s usual to shift from having lots of play mates to having few close friends as teenagers and adults. • As young people mature they develop a greater sense about what is important to them in their life and the friendships they choose.
