  3. Update Windows and Office • Good time to push out latest updates and service packs • Consider implementing WSUS • Windows Server Update Services 3.0 SP2 • Features / Fixes • Download

  4. Other cleanup activities • Create new images and re-image where possible • Clean-up home folders • Delete and recreate student folders?? • Have users empty their recycle bin • Or script it in a logoff script • Free Download utility • emptyrecyclebin.exe /Q

  5. Other cleanup activities • Take advantage of FSRM File System Resource Manager • Quotas • Consider placing quotas on home folder size • Screens • Consider files screens to block application uploads or multimedia files • Reports • Generate reports to find out who the “hogs” are

  6. Other cleanup activities • Cleanup Active Directory • Users • Computers • ADFind is a command line utility that can be used to find computers and users that have not logged on for an extended period of time. • Clean up out-dated GPOs

  7. Verify your backups are up to date • Test out a file restore or two • Make sure you’re backing up what you think you should • Make sure you not backing up things you don’t need to • Consider putting file screens in the backup utility to not backup temp files, executables, multimedia files, etc. where appropriate
